SDSU WOMEN'S GOLF TIES FOR 10TH AT SILVERADO SHOWDOWN

April 6, 2022 (Napa, Calif.) - The Aztec women’s golf team finished the Silverado Showdown Wednesday afternoon. SDSU tied for 10th in the competitive 16-team field after shooting a 298 Wednesday, their lowest score of the tournament, and had all five golfers shoot between a 73 and 77 in their final round. 

Freshman Anika Sato led the Aztecs Wednesday and overall, in the tournament, shooting a 222 (73-76-73, +6) to tie for 22nd. Sato’s 73 Wednesday was her second 73 of the tournament. She finished with three birdies, two bogeys and one double-bogey.

 

Bernice Olivarez Ilas shot a 74 Wednesday, the second lowest score among Aztecs, behind 15 pars. She tied for 33rd with a 225 (75-76-74).

 

Sara Kjellker finished right behind Olivarez Ilas with a 226 (75-76-75). Her 75 (+3) on Wednesday was bogged down by a triple-bogey on the par four fourth hole.

 

Esti Garcia Rubio finished with a 228 (80-71-77), tying for 49th.

 

Anna Lina Otten bounced back with a 76 on Wednesday after struggling in the first two rounds. Her three birdies tied with Sato for the team-high.

 

No. 5 San Jose State won the team championship after finishing with an 870 (+6), edging out No. 2 Oregon (872, +8). Arizona State’s Alessandra Fanali took home the individual title, shooting a 209 (69-71-69) to finish seven-under par, three strokes ahead of the closest competitor, Caitlyn Macnab (TCU).

 

UP NEXT

The Aztecs will compete in the Mountain West Championships April 18-20 at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
