April 30, 2022 (Tucson) - San Diego State is advancing to the NCAA Team Women’s Championship for the 23rd time in school history. The third-seeded Aztecs completed a dominant run through the Mountain West Conference tournament on Saturday, defeating fourth-seeded UNLV 4-1 to claim the program’s first league tournament title since 2003. With the win, the Aztecs earn an automatic bid into the NCAA team tournament.

April 30, 2022 (Las Vegas) - San Diego State had three players selected on the final day of the 2022 NFL Draft Saturday in Las Vegas, including Daniel Bellinger, Matt Araiza (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo HS) and Zachary Thomas.  Bellinger went to the New York Giants in the fourth round, while Araiza and Thomas went to the Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears, respectively, in the sixth round.

With the victory over the second-seeded Rams, the third-seeded Aztecs will face fourth-seeded UNLV in the championship match tomorrow at 11 a.m.

LEMON GROVE COUNCILMEMBER TO FACE RESTRAINING ORDER AND POTENTIAL CRIMINAL CHARGES IN COURT AFTER ACCUSATION OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

April 29, 2022 (Lemon Grove) — Lemon Grove Councilmember Liana LeBaron was arrested and charged with domestic violence on April 18 by the San Diego County Sheriff’s department, following an altercation with her husband over his life insurance policy.

 

A restraining order was filed the next day under the name Timothy C. Howell, which required that LeBaron leave her home upon its court approval. The protective order will last until May 10, when LeBaron will appear in court to address the issue.

The American Red Cross of San Diego and Imperial Counties is leading the Sound the Alarm smoke alarm installation and home fire safety event on May 14 with Heartland Fire and Rescue, as part of a national Red Cross initiative in May to install 50,000 free smoke alarms with partners in more than 50 at-risk communities across the country.

O’GRADY’S HOLES FOR HEROES GOLF TOURNAMENT COMING UP ON MAY 6

April 25, 2022 (El Cajon) - Local Umbrella Media, in conjunction with numerous other “do-gooders,” is sponsoring O’Grady’s Holes for Heroes Golf Tournament on Friday, May 6th at El Cajon’s Cottonwood Golf Course. The proceeds will benefit active-duty military, veterans, and first responders.

The beneficiary of the proceeds, Saddles in Service, based in Alpine, whose mission is to combat the suicide rates of active-duty military, veterans, and first responders using equine assisted learning and activities, is a non-profit 501(c)(3).
