November 1, 2023 (Laramie, Wyo.) - The Aztec women’s soccer team (14-3-3) played Colorado State (12-5-4) to a 0-0 draw in the Mountain West Tournament semifinals, but then fell to the Rams in penalty kicks 3-2.

San Diego State, who won the Mountain West regular season championship, struggled to find their footing offensively and were outshot by the Rams 19-8.

The Aztecs were able to hold CSU without a shot on goal for the first 35 minutes and then found a bit of a rhythm in the second half where they tied the Rams with two shots on goal apiece.

San Diego State had four shots in extra time, including two on frame in the second period of extra time.

Goalkeeper Alexa Madueno notched her six shutout of the year and had six saves.

In penalty kicks, Kiera Utush and Kali Trevithick both converted their attempts, but the Aztecs failed to make their other three. Colorado State missed just one of their four attempts.

The Aztecs finished the season with 14 wins, their most since 2015. They also tied a school record after having seven players earn All-Mountain West honors. SDSU placed five players on the first team, two on the second team and had Denise Castro win Offensive Player of the Year.
