April 17, 2018 (Fresno) - The San Diego State women’s tennis team traveled to the Central Valley Tuesday for a conference matchup at Fresno State where the Bulldogs edged the Aztecs, 4-3, at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. SDSU was unable to surpass the ‘Dogs in doubles play and recovered too late in singles.

In doubles action, seniors Jana Buth and Paola Diaz quickly tallied points against Alessia Dario and Juliane Triebe to claim a 6-1 win for the Aztecs in the second seed, but on court one, junior Jenny Moinard and sophomore Mia Smith were unable to catch up to 43rd-ranked Georgia Lawson and Emma Wilson, dropping a 6-3 decision. Junior Magda Aubets and Nnena Nadozie failed to overcome Olivia Noble and Katerina Stloukalova in the third seed, falling 6-4 and allowing the Bulldogs to claim the doubles point.

The Bulldogs remained hot entering singles play as Triebe notched a 6-0, 6-4 win over Aubets on court four, and Stloukalova finished 6-1, 6-3 over Diaz in the second seed. Nadozie wasswe the first Aztec to respond to the three Fresno State points with her 6-4, 6-1 victory over Noble in the sixth seed, but Buth’s 7-5, 6-2 loss to Wilson on court one sealed SDSU’s fate as the Bulldogs clinched the win with four match points.

Though the dual had been decided, freshman Abbie Mulbarger came back in her third set to top Dario 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the fifth seed and Moinard logged a 6-4, 2-6, 11-9 victory over Ndindi Ndunda in the No. 3 match to bring the Aztec point total to three.
