March 29, 2021 (Argyle, Texas) - Sara Kjellker finished in a tie for second place to lead the San Diego State women’s golf team Monday at The Bruzzy. It was her second runner-up finish of the season (also Feb. 8-9 at the Lamkin Invitational) and the third of her career.

Kjellker carded an even-par-72 today on the 6,421-yard Lantana Golf Club and finished the tournament at 3-under 213. Kjellker, who opened on the par-5, 519-yard seventh hole, got to 5-under for the tournament after consecutive birdies on the par-4, 367-yard 14th and the par-3, 137-yard 15th. Bogeys on the par-5, 503-yard 16th and the par-4, 391-yard fifth, however, dropped her back to even-par for the day and 3-under for the tournament. Tying for second with Audrey Tan (North Texas) and Nataliya Guseva (Miami), Kjellker tied for third in the field in par-4 scoring (3.97) and tied for sixth in par-5 scoring (4.67).

As a team, the Aztecs broke a tie for sixth with a 2-over 290 today, finishing in solo sixth at 8-over 872. No. 7 Oklahoma State captured the team title at 15-under 849 and had the individual winner in Lianna Bailey (-11). No. 30 Texas Tech finished second (-2), while host No. 38 North Texas was third at +1. No. 33 Oklahoma (+6) and No. 17 Houston (+7) just barely edged SDSU (+8) for fourth and fifth, respectively.

April Ranches, meanwhile, tied for 22nd at 3-over 219 following a 2-over 74 in today’s final round. Ranches recorded birdies on No. 15 and No. 16, offsetting four bogeys on the day. The 22nd-place finish was her best this season.

Andrea Gomez carded a 1-over 73 Monday to finish in a tie for 37th overall at 6-over 222. Gomez ended her round with three birdies - No. 3 (par-5, 506-yards), No. 7 and No. 8 (par-3, 153 yards) - over her final six holes.

Anna Lina Otten was the lone San Diego State golfer to shoot under-par today with a 71 (-1) en route to tying for 60th at 12-over 228. The 71 was also a collegiate low for the freshman and featured birdies on her first two holes of the day - par-4, 359-yard 10th and par-3, 181-yard 11th - and the par-4, 362-yard first.

Competing in the No. 1 spot for the Aztec starting for the tournament, Bernice Olivarez Ilas was unable to get anything going today in an 8-over 80. She finished in a tie for 64th at 13-over 229.
