November 25, 2023 (El Cajon) -- After a long absence of  recovery from illness, Dr. David Jeremiah returned to his church, Shadow Mountain Community Church in El Cajon on November 19th..  The pastor was assisted with a walker and staff guided him to the pulpit. His congregation gave him a warm welcome back and the sanctuary was full.

Jeremiah is an internationally acclaimed minister, prolific writer and speaker. He often tells human interest stories that captures the delight of his audience. He told of his travel to attend his son's  wedding. The 82-year-old minster had lost a lot of weight in recovery and he did not have enough belt holes in his belt to tighten his suit trousers because of weight loss. He borrowed a sliding belt like the ones military dress slacks typically use. He was in a small group of  family members as photographs were taken.

“I looked down and my trousers were around my ankles,” remarked Jeremiah. He, in typical Jeremiah fashion said, “ Fortunately I was in the back of the group and no one noticed.” This remark resulted in a huge roar of laughter from the congregation.

Dr. Jeremiah's return message was Psalms 138, which talks about the reality of trouble in believers’ lives.

“Though I walk in the mist of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and they right hand shall save me,” he said. He spoke of his having cancer in the past, then a leg issue, and how we seek strength as believers.
