MAY 1, 2024 (Santee) --“There’s not much we won’t do to protect our family, friends, and neighbors in Santee,” Santee firefighters say in a social media post promoting the launch of a new calendar to support the Protect Santee ballot measure.

People who like shirtless firefighters are invited to join the calendar launch party at Deano’s Pub East in Santee (11541 Woodside Ave., Suite D) on Thursday, May 2 from 6 – 9 p.m.. In addition to some good food and cold beer, attendees can get a calendar and an autograph from Santee’s homegrown hotshots.

But there’s a catch.

As the last days of the Protect Santee signature gathering come to a close, Santee residents will be asked if they can put their autographs on a petition of their own.

“Many of you know we’ve been out volunteering to let Santee know our fire department is severely underfunded – and that we need you to get behind the Protect Santee initiative to help save us,”  the Santee Firefighters Association states. ““You get to be one of the heroes who have helped our team Protect Santee by providing the much-needed financial support to run a campaign to let Santee voters understand how critical it is to support our initiative.”

The calendars cost $25 each and can be purchased at Deano’s Pub on Thursday evening, or anytime on the ProtectSantee.com website. All proceeds support the Protect Santee initiative, a small and temporary sales tax to fund a new fire station, renovate the existing ones, and augment our firefighter personnel.

If enough signatures are collected and the measure qualifies, it would appear on the November ballot in Santee.

The Protect Santee initiative is sponsored by the Santee Firefighters Association. More details about the campaign can be found at ProtectSantee.com. Additional materials, including reports, campaign assets, and presentations can be found HERE.
