SHOCKEY FIRE TOPS 1,000 ACRES: FOUR HOMES BURNED

September 23, 2012 (San Diego's East County)Update 5:10 p.m. - The Shockey Fire has topped 1,000 acres, IPN reports. Numerous outbuildings have burned, Cal Fire confirms. Scanner traffic now indicates that at least four homes have burned in the Tierra del Sol area.

SDG&E reports that the Shockey Fire has left 183 customers without power in Live Oak Springs, Boulevard and Jacumba. Powerlines have burned and some lines are down.

Jewel Valley is under mandatory evacuation orders following earlier evacuations of 77 homes in Tierra del Sol. 

The Evacuation Center has been changed to Mountain Empire High School, 3305 Buckman Springs Road.     If you need help evacuating large animals, call 619-767-2675 or 619-236-2341.

Higway 94 is closed from Shockey Truck Trail to Tierra del Sol.

ECM reporter Nadin Abbott reports from the scene. "There are units from across San Diego County and neighboring counties," she said.

The major brush fire is spreading southeast toward the border.

The red line is the distance, with the leftmost point being approximately the location of the Deerhorn Fire Station and the right-hand point in the middle of the fire. Distance is 20.5 miles. CHP advises, "If you see fire and don't feel safe, go ahead and evacuate."

 

The fire started near Shockey Truck Trail (TB Map 1319 D2). The fire was dispatched at 12:16 and the cause is under investigation, Cal Fire reports.

 


Cal Fire is being assisted by  the San Diego Sheriff, Reservation Fire Departments and U.S. Forest service, Heartland Fire and other agencies.

Parts last burned in 1950; the rest has no fire history.  Mother naure wins again.
