MASL leading goal scorer Franck Tayou gets hat-trick on game-winning goal

January 20, 2018 (San Diego) -The 14-time San Diego Sockers were beaten by their nemesis the Soles de Sonora on a Franck Tayou goal twenty-three seconds into overtime. San Diego, who had seven different scorers, has lost two straight games to drop to 10-2 on the season.

The smaller field in Sonora led to plenty of goals beginning with two Sonora goals within the first five minutes. San Diego drew even with goals by Erick Tovar and Luan Oliveira, but the Soles tallied twice before the end of the quarter for a 4-2 lead.

The second period saw seven goals, with the Sockers scoring four of them. Caser Cerda, Brandon Escoto, John Sosa, and Tovar. However, Sonora held a 7-6 halftime lead.

The Sockers used three consecutive goals in the third quarter to gain a 10-8 advantage going into the fourth. Escoto and Oliveira scored Raymundo Reza notched his first.

Sandwiching the Sockers only goal, were two goals before and after. Tayou opened the quarter with his second of the night, followed by a Gustavo Rosales marker. On the backend, Enrique Canez notched his fourth goal to send the game to overtime; where Tayou ended it in the extra period. 

Goalkeeper Boris Pardo allowed a season-high 12 goals, but he was supported by the defense ahead of him. It was his first loss of the season after starting 5-0.

San Diego returns to Valley View Casino Center on Sunday, January 21 at 5:05 p.m. for the rematch with the Ontario Fury.
