September 7, 2016 (San Diego) - The Padres were lifted over the Red Sox by Adam Rosales’ homer yesterday.  Paul Clemens started tonight and they hoped for a more dominant win against Clay Buccholz for the Sox.

The bats stayed quiet till the fourth again, but this time, it was the Sox who struck first on back-to-back homers by Jackie Bradley Jr. and Chris Young.  JBJ’s was good for two and the Sox led 3-0.

Ryan Schimpf narrowed the deficit in the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer that made the score 3-1 Sox.

But the Sox pulled away again in the fifth with a single by Hanley Ramirez that scored Xander Bogaerts and the Sox led 4-1 and Clemens left the game, to be replaced by Jose Dominguez.  Young singled off of him to drive home Mookie Betts and the Sox went up 5-1.  That would be all they need to steal game two from the Pads.

The series finale is surprisingly NOT a matinee; it will be at 6:10 p.m. tomorrow.  David Price will start for the Sox against Jarred Cosart.
