May 3, 2012 (San Diego) -- San Diego State University’s Aztec Aquaplex will host the 2012 NCAA Women’s Water Polo National Championship on May 11-13.

This is the second time in three years that SDSU has served as host of the water polo championship, the last being in 2010.

Opened in March 2007, the Aztec Aquaplex is known as one of the finest outdoor aquatic facilities in the United States. The 112,000-square foot facility features two pools, one for recreation and one for competition, and a hydrotherapy spa.

The tournament will feature automatic bids from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, Collegiate Water Polo Association, Big West, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Western Water Polo Association, and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference conferences, as well as three at-large teams.

“The NCAA Championship returning to SDSU in 2012 is another opportunity to showcase our water polo program and facilities, and show that we are among the elite in the nation,” SDSU women’s water polo head coach Carin Crawford said in 2010 to goaztecs.com. “Having the opportunity to host the 2010 NCAA Water Polo Championship proved to the water polo world that SDSU is capable of putting on a premier event, and I’m excited to have the chance to do it again in 2012.”

For tickets, go to goaztecs.com to purchase online or call the Aztec Ticket Office at 619-283-SDSU (7378). Single session tickets will also go on sale at 11 a.m. on the first day. Those tickets can be purchased at the Aztec Ticket Office in front of Tony Gwynn Stadium.
