H1N1 IS PRIMARY FLU VIRUS CIRCULATING IN SAN DIEGO, NATION

 

Pandemic H1N1 is the primary influenza virus circulating this season in San Diego and across most of the nation, the County Health and Human Services Agency announced today.

Of 1,730 lab-confirmed influenza cases reported so far this season in San Diego, nearly 94 percent are influenza A. Influenza A has several subtypes, including Pandemic H1N1 and H3N2. During a typical year, the primary influenza virus is H3N2 or “seasonal” flu. This season, there are 10 cases of Pandemic H1N1 for every case of H3N2.

SAN DIEGAN, 62, IS SIXTH TO DIE OF FLU THIS SEASON

February 3, 2016 (San Diego) -- A 62-year-old man is the first person under the age of 65 to die from influenza in the San Diego region this season, the County Health and Human Services Agency reported today.

COUNTY HEALTH OFFICIALS URGE PUBLIC TO GET FLU SHOTS FOLLOWING SEVEN FLU DEATHS LOCALLY

 

January 15, 2014 (San Diego) -- Six more influenza-related deaths were reported in the San Diego area last week, the County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) has announced. 

To date, seven flu-related deaths have been reported locally this season and all tested positive for Pandemic H1N1. The people who died ranged in age from 35 to 80 years old and all had underlying medical conditions. Only one is known to have received a flu shot this season. Last season, 65 flu-related deaths were reported in the county.

SUPERVISOR JACOB “WORRIED” OVER SHORTAGE OF SWINE FLU VACCINES

October 22, 2009 (San Diego) – “I’m worried,” Supervisor Dianne Jacob told East County Magazine when asked about H1N1 (swine flu) vaccinations. “These should have been here yesterday.”
 

Jacob expressed concern over the fact that San Diego has only received 28,000 doses of the vaccine, yet the County has 12 million people. She added that she is now receiving hourly updates on the situation.
