March 5, 2024 (San Diego's East County) - In the race for the 48th Congressional District, early results from the primary election suggest that Democratic candidate Stephen Houlahan is on track to secure a spot in the general election, where he will face off against Republican incumbent Darrell Issa for the second consecutive election.

With 19.9% of all precincts reporting, Issa held the lead among all candidates with 41,284 votes followed by Houlahan with 11,811. The remaining candidates trailed the two top contenders. Democratic candidates Whitney Shanahan received 7,833 votes, Mike Simon 6,411, Matthew G. Rascon 1,718, and no-party preference candidate Lucinda Kwh Jahn garnered 738 votes.
