July 31, 2011 (Cleveland National Forest) – On Saturday, August 13, the San Diego Archaeological Center will host a presentation on volunteer opportunities including the Cleveland National Forest heritage program, “Passport in Time.” The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the San Diego Archaeological Center, 16666 San Pasqual Valley Road in Escondido.

Supervisors Honor 20 Volunteer-of-the-Year Recipients at Annual Event

April 16, 2011 (San Diego)—San Diego County Supervisors commended the extraordinary service contributions of 20 residents who were selected as Volunteers of the Year for their work with various departments. The volunteers, who have collectively donated a total of 4,834 hours, were honored at the County’s annual Volunteer Recognition event held prior to the Board of Supervisors meeting this week.

CLIMBING THE WALLS: SHERIFF’S SEARCH & RESCUE VOLUNTEERS LEARN RAPPELING SKILLS

 

March 25, 2011 (San Diego) – Many San Diegans are unaware that the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Unit is an all-volunteer unit.

 

To learn skills needed for rescuing people who may become trapped in rugged terrain, 25 volunteers are undergoing training this weekend by rappelling down the side of a 70-foot-high tower at Stu Segall Productions in Kearny Mesa.
