February 25, 2012 (Valley Center)—Marc Thompson of Valley Center has been arrested for igniting a trailer with his fiancé inside following a domestic violence dispute last night.  The woman, Christina English, was able to escape without injury.

Valley Center deputies responded to a report of an arson trailer fire in the 30000 block of Spearhead Trail at 5:05 p.m. Thompson and his couple had been involved in a verbal and physical argument when he left English’s trailer and punctured her car tires with a knife, according to Lt. J.T. Faulker with the San Diego Sheriff Department.

“He re-entered the trailer with a gasoline container,” a reported written by Lt. Faulker said, adding that English was still inside.  “Thompson poured gasoline on the inside entry of the trailer and continued pouring gasoline as he exited the trailer. When he was about 20 feet from the trailer, he ignited the gasoline.”

English stepped onto gasoline as she attempted to leave the trailer. As she jumped through flames to escape, her socks caught on fire. She was able to extinguish the fire to her socks and did not appear to have suffered injury beyond singed arm hair, Faulkner said.

The suspect had previously called his 83 year old mother for a ride. She drove Thompson away prior to deputies and the fire department's arrival. When deputies arrived on scene, they broadcast a vehicle and suspect description to surrounding agencies.

Deputy Aaron Boer spotted the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at 28960 Lilac Rd, Valley Center (approximately 5.4 miles from English's residence). Deputy Boer arrested Thompson without incident.

Sheriff's Arson Investigators are investigating the matter. Thompson was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on charges of Arson, Vandalism,Violation of a Criminal Protection Order and Domestic Violence related charges.
