October 22, 2017 (La Mesa) – If you’re a local high school-age student with musical talent, you’re invited to participate in the La Mesa Rotary Club’s Instrumental Music Competition on January 24th. The winner will advance to a regional contest in February, where finalists for a district-wide competition will be held in March with finalists from across San Diego and Imperial Counties. The grand prize will be a $2,500 scholarship.

So come blow your horn, flout your flute skills, or perform on any other musical instrument of your choice.  The contest is open to 14-18 year olds living in Rotary’s District 5340, which includes both San Diego and Imperial Counties.

The performance must be instrumental only and run three to eight minutes.  A teacher’s recommendation is required.

Judging is based on musical ability, musical empathy/technique, interpretation and stage presence.  Contestants are responsible for travel expenses and must provide four copies of their music for the judges.
