March 6, 2019 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police have arrested four suspects accused of carjacking a taxicab early this morning at the Denny’s Restaurant on Alvarado Road. GPS tracking on the taxi enabled officers to quickly locate the vehicle and nab the suspects nearby.
March 6, 2019 (Ramona) – The driver of a Mercedes may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs when he drifted over the center line on Dye Road in Ramona yesterday afternoon and sideswiped a Subaru, then struck a Toyota Tundra head-on.

March 6, 2019 (La Mesa) - The La Mesa Police Department today announced that it is joining the Neighbors app by Ring (available via iOS/Android here: https://download.ring.com/lamesa to provide the La Mesa community with real-time, local crime and safety information. The Neighbors network already has millions of users and has been instrumental in catching package thieves, stopping burglaries, and keeping neighborhoods safe.

March 6, 2019 (Dulzura) - Crews will begin work on the new State Route 94 (SR-94) Curb Realignment Project in Dulzura (south of Jamul) beginning Monday, March 11, according to Caltrans. The long-awaited project will soften the curve on a quarter-mile section of SR-94 just west of Freezer Road and will include relocating utility poles and lines.
The work will require reducing SR-94 to one lane within the construction zone with 24/7 one-way traffic control for much of the year-long project. Temporary traffic control will be used at each end of the lane closure to signal drivers when to safely proceed through the single lane.

March 6, 2019 (La Mesa) - Ever want to see what happens before the show goes on? You 've probably heard of a dress rehearsal. That''s for the actors to run through a play exactly how the show will go. The day before the dress they have what is called a tech rehearsal, which is what the play 10 out of 12 is about. A tech rehearsal is for the crewand director to know where the director wants the lights to be for every scene, with the stage hands marking where each piece of furniture will go. There are last minute changes, for sound, props and what have you. The cast does have to be there and it is a long day having to repeat everything again and again until all is perfect.

March 5, 2019 (El Cajon) - St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC), a nonprofit organization that serves individuals with developmental disabilities, will hold its 18th Morning Glory Brunch on Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The brunch will be hosted at SMSC’s Garden and Aquatics Center, located at 2119 E. Restoration work has been proposed by the Back Country Land Trust for OHV impacted areas of their Clover Flat Wildlife Preserve. The public is invited to review and comment on their application for funding of a habitat restoration grant. These grants are solicited by the California State Parks Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHMVR) Grants and Cooperative Agreements Program,
Grant funding would be used to restore 15 acres of OHV impacted critical wildland habitat in Clover Flat Preserve to the east of Campo. Clover Flat is located to the west of La Posta Road and north of Highway 94. Habitat restoration, fencing, and educational signage will protect endangered species, prevent soil erosion, redirect recreational Off-Highway Vehicle users to nearby legal recreational areas, and will employ local contractors.
March 4, 2019 (San Diego) – Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-Alpine) has introduced a resolution calling on the House of Representatives to prioritize hunting and recreational access to public lands. The action seeks to reinforce Executive Order 13443 issued by President George W. Bush.
March 4, 2019 (San Francisco) - California Attorney General Xavier Becerra has announced the release of a California Department of Justice (DOJ) report on immigration detention facilities in the state. The report is the result of Assembly Bill 103, which passed in 2017, requiring the DOJ, over a 10-year period, to report on: conditions of confinement; the standard of care and due process provided to detainees; and the circumstances around the apprehension and transfer of detainees to facilities. This initial report is intended to provide increased transparency around immigration detention facilities in California. The report is an important step forward in understanding the conditions under which civil immigration detainees are living, including their access to critical health and legal resources.

March 4, 2019 (Julian) — Today was a good day. Eighteen men and women graduated from the JCFPD Academy and will join JCFPD as Firefighters. One more will be added after he completes the last few classes, but he could not graduate today because he sustained a broken elbow, slipping on the ice while training. Chief Mike Van Bibber orchestrated the graduation ceremony and pinned each firefighter with their new badge.

March 3, 2019 (Spring Valley) -- Steele Canyon High School presents the world’s longest running musical, Les Misérables. This modern classic, based on Victor Hugo’s novel, features one of the most memorable scores of all time. The production includes over 130 students in the cast, crew and orchestra. March 3, 2019 (El Cajon) — A celebration of music spring concert on March 16 at 4 p.m. will feature the combined forces of San Diego State University choirs, San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts choirs, plus a battalion of brass, organ and percussion.
