May 27, 2013 (Ocotillo) -- When Jim Pelley arose at sunrise and looked out over the desert from his home in Ocotillo, he noticed something missing. So he grabbed his camera to record the unusual sight.

A Siemens wind turbine at Pattern Energy's Ocotillo Express Wind Energy facility had hurled off  a multi-ton blade onto a trail on public Bureau of Land Management recreational land.  Fortunately, since the accident occurred at night, nobody was harmed.

Strobe lights and the turbines

I drove past Ocotillo early  Monday morning on my way to Superstition and  that was the first time I saw the strobe lights.  !Que terrible! And the view from fifteen miles away was just as bad,  highlighting the size of the project.  I can't  imagine what Jim and  the other  residents are going through.

One turbine was still turning slowly when I was westbound on Interstate 8,  next to the first radiator water turn out. Is there a problem with the braking system? The next failure waiting to happen? Stay tuned....

A Monument to Failure

What a sight to see on our trip out and back from the River . . . not one wind turbine moving!   They're all "dead in the water" . . . uh, I mean air.   We ruined our back country for this???
