June 13, 2019 (Ramona) -- The Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project will hold a dedication for “La Quinceañera” by artist Johnathan Martinez at Leslie’s Pool Supplies, 1905 Main St., Ramona, on Saturday, June 15 at 10:00 a.m. on the sidewalk in front of the mural.

The public is invited to attend. In addition to refreshments, you will meet the artist and receive an autographed picture of the mural.

“La Quinceañera” depicts the celebration of a Catholic girl’s 15th birthday. Johnathan Martinez’s bold and vibrant colors and the painting of his subjects without faces draw the viewer in while reinforcing the ideals of family, love, friendship, and the joy of living life.

This is the artist’s first mural for Ramona, although he has been actively involved in the community with his art for many years. He helped raise funds for the H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project by painting wine barrels for the Ramona Art and Wine Festival. He also painted two utility boxes outside the Women’s Club at 524 Main St., Ramona.

See if you can locate the three heart icons he’s hidden in his mural. For more on Johnathan Martinez and his art, go to jmstudioart.com.

“Classic Bikes,” the 22nd mural in the H.E.A.R.T. Mural series, will be unveiled at a  dedication ceremony at Cheers of Ramona, 2475 Main St., Ramona, CA on Friday, June 21 at 5:00 p.m.

You’re invited to view the “Classic Bikes” mural illustrating classic motorcycles that frequent Ramona and enjoy some Happy Hour nibbles and a non-alcoholic beverage outside or you can go inside Cheers to purchase other beverages. In addition to refreshments, attendees will meet the artist and receive an autographed picture of the mural.

This is artist Beata Wojcik’s second mural for Ramona following “Bandy Blacksmith” at D’Carlos restaurant. She has been creating fine art murals and interior faux finishes since 1999 – commercial/residential – indoor/outdoor – private/public. She offers a unique blend of personalized design, 3D style painting, and a variety of artistic styles to customize her murals.

The artist has hidden at least seven heart icons in the “Classic Bikes” mural to challenge you.

Donations to help pay for the mural projects can be made on the website at ramonamurals.com. Donations of $100 or more will be listed on the website and on a plaque on the building. The Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation.

The goal of the Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project is to create a reason for those passing tourists to STOP to enjoy Ramona’s beauty, charm, character and heritage, and to rest a spell. In addition to the murals on the walls of buildings, the H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project recently completed the first 17 of its Utility Box Project, providing smaller “canvases” for local artists who aren’t muralists to participate.

The acronym, H.E.A.R.T., not only indicates Ramona as the geographic center of San Diego County, but reflects the character of the community. “H” for Historic and Hiking, “E” for Equine, “A” for Arts, Antiques and Agriculture, “R” for scenic rural vistas and drives, and “T” for Tasting of fine wines.
