February 24, 2023 (Peoria, Ariz.) - Baseball is back! This year, the Padres will be facing every single team in the league under the new MLB rules. But they face everyone in spring training anyway. The Padres begin exhibition spring training games today against the Mariners. Robbie Ray started for Seattle against Nick Martinez.
Teoscar Hernandez scored the first run of 2023 for the Mariners on an error in the fourth. Mike Ford doubled to score two and Seattle led 3-0 after four.
Matthew Batten batted in the first run of 2023 for the Padres with a double in the eighth that scored Jackson Merrill. Tim Lopes singled to score Batten, but the rally was stopped and the Padres lost the first game of 2023 3-2. Looks like another fun season.
