April 27, 2023 (Chicago) - The Padres and Cubs have split their series.  They got to play today at the traditional Wrigley Field 11:20 start time.  Seth Lugo started against Hayden Wesneski for the Cubs.

Manny Machado broke the tie in the second when he blasted a homer over the ivy in left, but ex-Padre Eric Hosmer did the same thing in the home half to right center.  Nelson Velasquez hit a no-doubter over the wall in left.  Trent Grisham bobbled a routine fly ball in center, allowing Tucker Barnhart to single and Nick Madrigal to score and the Cubs led 3-1 after two.

Ian Happ added another in the fifth with a single that scored Nico Hoerner and the Cubs led 4-1 after five.

Dansby Swanson added a solo homer in the seventh that sat atop the ivy in left and the Cubs led 5-1 after seven.

Matt Carpenter finally got the Padres on the board with a sac fly in the eighth that scored Juan Soto, another run came in, but the Cubs prevailed and took the series 2-1 with a 5-2 win.
