April 3, 2023 (San Diego) - The Rockies are finally gone and the Diamondbacks came in for two games. Ryne Nelson started tonight for Arizona against Ryan Weathers.
Juan Soto kicked things off in the first with a two-run homer, but in the second, the Dbacks came back with a single from Nick Ahmed that scored Evan Longoria. Gabriel Moreno grounded into a double play that scored Corbin Carroll, but in the home half, Manny Machado reclaimed the lead for the Padres in the home half with a single that scored Rougned Odor and the Friars led 3-2 after two.
Carroll tied the game in the seventh with a solo homer and we were tied at three after seven.
We looked headed for bonus baseball until the ninth when Longoria destroyed a ball to deep left that kicked Steven Wilson out of the game. Tim Hill came in and closed out the inning. All looked lost, but in the home half, David Dahl belted a solo homer that was good for the equalizer. And Ha-Seong Kim was the hero as he matched Longoria’s blast with a demolishing blow and the Padres got their first walk-off of the season with a 5-4 win. The Friars also become the first team in history to walk off on back-to-back homers by their eighth and ninth hitters in the lineup.
