April 1, 2023 (San Diego) - The Padres started April down 0-2.  Fun.  They tried to win their first tonight against the Rockies.  Jose Urena started for Colorado against Michael Wacha.

Tonight was different. Xander Bogaerts hit his first homer as a Padre, a two-bagger in the first and the Padres led 2-0 after one.

Matt Carpenter added on in the third with a double that scored two and the Padres led 4-0 after three.

Mike Moustakas scored in the fifth, but Luis Campusano hit a sac fly to center that scored Jake Cronenworth in the home half of the fifth and the Padres led 4-1 after five.

C.J. Cron and Charlie Blackmon struck again in the sixth, Blackmon with an RBI double and Cron with a two-run blast to right, his third of the series, but Manny Machado extended the lead in the sixth with a lined single to left to score Jose Azocar in the bottom of the sixth and the Padres led 6-4 after six.

Juan Soto added the finishing touches in the eighth with a grounder up the middle that scored Azocar and Rougned Odor and the Padres got their first win of 2023, 8-4.
