"CHRISTMAS IN ALPINE" HOME TOUR DEC. 16TH

November 16, 2017 (Alpine) - The Alpine Woman’s Club will hold its Twelfth Annual “Christmas in Alpine” Home Tour on Saturday, December 16th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. You will have an opportunity to view five stunning country estates and stroll through Kathy and Mario’s quaint and spectacular Alpine Country Garden and Gifts Shop and the beautifully decorated Alpine Community Church. The Historic Town Hall will be open from 1pm till 4pm. Andrew Piondexter will display his incredible Nutcracker collection. He originally started his collection about five years ago for one of his teachers. He added to his collection and now has almost 300 Nutcrackers. They range in size from two inches to five feet tall.

Plus we’ll have a preview of coming attractions over the next month including Pomegranate Days at the Oasis Camel Dairy in Ramona, Holiday Lights on Main in El Cajon, holiday hay rides in Santa Ysabel, a Julian Country Christmas, a bonfire and ice skating in Lemon Grove, Lakeside’s Spirit of Christmas on Maine, a Christmas Cabaret, La Mesa’s Holiday in the Village, and the San Diego Festival Chorus and Orchestra’s “Sounds Good” performance of Handel’s Messiah and other holiday favorites.

20th ANNUAL BONFIRE, SKATING, HAYRIDE IN LEMON GROVE DEC. 1

November 9, 2017 (Lemon Grove) -- The City of Lemon Grove will hold its 20th annual holiday "Light up the 'Grove" bonfire on Dec. 1 from 12 noon to 8 p.m. The bonfire lighting at 6 p.m. will be preceded by game booths, rock climbing wall, hayrides, arts and crafts, live music and skating on an actual ice rink. Free hot chocolate and outreach from the city's non profit groups, including the Lemon Grove Historical Society's traditional open house, will be part of the fun.  Event hours are extended this year to mark Lemon Grove's 40th anniversary of incorporation.

HONORING OUR VETERANS: NOV. 10-11 AT GROSSMONT CENTER

November 8, 2017 (La Mesa) - On Friday, November 10 and Saturday, November 11, Grossmont Center is pulling out all the stops to honor our veterans.  The event kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday evening in the Courtyard with a concert by the Navy's SW 32nd Street Brass Band.  These outstanding musicians will be performing traditional New Orleans jazz, Navy favorites and pop tunes.

VIEJAS ICE RINKS NOW OPEN: HOLIDAY ON ICE SHOW NOV. 11

November 8, 2017 (Alpine) – The largest outdoor ice rink in Southern California is now open for the season  (through January 28) at the Viejas Outlet Center in Alpine, transforming the grounds into a winter wonderland.  On Saturday, November 11, the rink will feature a Holiday on Ice  show and lighting of a large holiday see.

November 8, 2017 (El Cajon) - The 71st Annual Mother Goose Parade will be on November 19th, the Sunday before Thanksgiving.   This year’s parade theme is “Family Traditions!”  The parade begins at 1 p.m.  You can see over 100 colorful and exciting parade entries, including floats, marching bands, clowns, equestrians, local dignitaries, TV celebrities, and Santa Claus!  The parade Grand Marshal is Randy Jones, former San Diego Padre and CY Young award winner.

October 21, 2017 (El Cajon) -- El Cajon held its sixth annual HauntFest on Main in downtown El Cajon last night, with a Ghostbusters theme this year.

I had a quite a time weaving through the crowds trying to capture the fun and energy I saw on the faces amongst everyone with my camera. There were literally thousands of people attending this ever-popular event, which can make it challenging to navigate around. One simply cannot be in a hurry to any particular destination.

CARNIVAL 4 CANINES OCT. 21 IN LA MESA

October 14, 2017 (La Mesa) - Harry Griffin Park is going to the dogs! 

On Saturday October 21 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Coe Lewis will be hosting the third annual Carnival 4 Canines put on by Jackie Blue's Rescue Angels and KSON-FM 97.3 and 92.1.  Admission to this family-friendly, pet-friendly event is free, and it offers games for the kids, gourmet food, crafts, and vendors who specialize in one-of-a-kind and handmade items.  There will be microchipping services, animal welfare & conservation organizations as well as pet rescue groups. The doggy costume contest registration begins at 1 p.m., with the judging beginning at 2 p.m.  An opportunity drawing will begin at 3:30 p.m. (winner need not be present to win).   You won't want to miss seeing the doggy agility course.  All proceeds benefit Jackie Blue's Rescue Angels, a 501(c)3 nonprofit in Jacumba Hot Springs.

September 24, 2017 (Mount Laguna) — If you stop by the Laguna Mountain Rendezvous October 13-21, you’re likely to feel as though you’ve been transported into the past –a mountain man encampment bringing history to life.  Activities for participants include black-powder shooting instruction, archery, tomahawk throwing, tool-making, camp stove cooking, early American music, and a traders’ row selling vintage and replica items from Colonial times in the 1770s through around 1840.

In an exclusive interview, Richard Emms, president of the Laguna Mountain Shooting Club, resident gunsmith and Rendezvous Booshway (leader of a group of mountain men)shares insights on how the group got started and what attracts folks to don historical garb for the 10-day encampment in period-style tents.

October 11, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) --This week’s Destination East County includes pumpkin patch events at Summers Past Farms and Scotty’s Scare Trail in Flinn Springs, train rides on the Pumpkin Express in Campo, The Laguna Mountain Rendezvous, a chili cookoff for charity in Lemon Grove, and Kids Care Fest in Lakeside.

Plus, we’ll have a preview of coming attractions, including El Cajon’s Haunt Fest on Main, Borrego Days, a Toast to East County, a haunted lodge, a Halloween harvest family festival on Mt. Helix, the Boulevard Boo Parade, a spooky campover at Lions, Tigers and Bears in Alpine, Laurel and Hardy night’s “Hallowscream” in Spring Valley, a Harvest Fest and Plant Sale at the Water Conservation Garden, the Ramona Art and Wine Festival, and live hawk demonstrations at Mission Trails Regional Park.

BOO! PARADE BRINGS OUT HOLIDAY SPIRIT OCTOBER 28 IN COLLEGE AREA

October 10, 2017 (San Diego) -- Celebrating its 13th year, the Boulevard BOO! Parade will be held on Saturday, October 28th starting at 10 a.m. With over 70 entries of live entertainment marching on one mile of El Cajon Boulevard in the College Area, the parade will entertain you with spooky ghouls, goblins, ghosts and witches to fill you with the Halloween spirit.
