April 4, 2023 (San Diego) - The Padres have taken one game from the Dbacks in this two-game series.  They looked for their first sweep of 2023 against Zac Gallen for Arizona against Yu Darvish.

Austin Nola singled in the second to score Jake Cronenworth and in the fourth, Nelson Cruz hit his first homer as a Padre:  a deep ball to left field for his 460th home run, Cruz, 42, becomes the second oldest Padre to hit a home run.  Nola walked and the ball went into center field on a pickoff attempt that allowed Xander Bogaerts to score from third and the Padres led 3-0 after four.

The Diamondbacks got on the board in the fifth with Josh Rojas’ sac fly that scored Geraldo Perdomo, but Bogaerts belted a two-run blast in the home half and the Padres led 5-1 after five.

The Diamondbacks crept closer with Perdomo’s two-RBI single in the sixth and Rojas’ single that scored Perdomo.  From then on, it just got worse.

Jake McCarthy scored on an error in the eighth to tie the game.  Jose Herrera singled to score Perdomo.  Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a sac fly to score Herrera.  Rojas scored and save for a Trent Grisham home run in the ninth, the Dbacks came from behind to split the series with an 8-6 win.
