October 14, 2011 (San Diego's East County) -- The San Miguel Fire District's Fire Expo has been cancelled due to a labor dispute,  district spokesman Leonard Villareal informed ECM this morning.  The event was set for tomorrow at the Rancho San Diego Towne Center.

October 13, 2011 (La Mesa)  Police are investigating a robbery that occurred Wednesday night in La Mesa at the Motel 6 at 7621 Alvarado Road near Comanche Drive at 10:12 p.m.  The clerk told officers that two men armed with handguns came into the lobby and demanded money.

October 14, 2011 (San Diego)--The public is invited to the funeral service for San Diego Police Officer Jason Prokop, who was killed in an off-duty traffic collision on I-15 October 1 while he was rendering aid to a motorist. October 14, 2011 (Chula Vista) -- Residents in Otay and Chula Vista are gearing up for the celebration of a century.  The City of Chula Vista is celebrating its 100th birthday with a citywide party at the U.S. Olympic Training Center this Saturday, October 15 from 12 noon to 9:30 p.m.

October 13, 2011 (El Cajon) – Many East County residents have fond childhood memories of revving up at the Go Kart Track at the old Marshall Scotty’s facility. Now, 17 years after the site closed down, Go Kart riders will once again be able to take a victory lap.

October 13, 2011 (San Diego’s East County)--The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments yesterday in Pasadena in a lawsuit that has sweeping implications for the state budget and thousands of low-income, disabled Californians and their families.

October 13, 2011 (Spring Valley) –A 16-month-old child apparently drowned in a backyard pool in the 1200 block of El Kelton Boulevard in Spring Valley.

ECM news partner 10 News reports that the child, who was found unresponsive in the water about 6 p.m. last night, was taken to Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa but was pronounced dead a short time later.
