February 25, 2018 (Cathedral City, Calif.) - West Hills High grad Katie Byrd singled in Janina Jusay in the top of the eighth inning and Alex Formby got the San Diego State softball team out of two late jams in a 3-2 extra-inning win over Bethune-Cookman Saturday night at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

Formby (3-5) got the win for the Aztecs (6-9) after tossing 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief with just two hits and an intentional walk allowed, while striking out four. In the sixth, she got out of a jam with two runners in scoring position with one out and in the eighth, she escaped two runners in scoring position with no outs, ending the game by getting cleanup hitter Kailey Richard to line into a double play with the bases loaded.

Winners of five of its last six games, SDSU wraps up its play in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic at 2 p.m. Sunday against UC Davis.
