Study to address potential contamination and cleanup of historic military site

March 18, 2016 (Camp Lockett) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has scheduled a public meeting to present information on the upcoming Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study at Camp Lockett. Camp Lockett is a Formerly Used Defense Site located in San Diego County. Its property boundary surrounds the town of Campo.

Camp Lockett was initially used by the U.S. Army for cavalry training and border defense, then for training of troops during World War II. After its use as a training range, portions of Camp Lockett were used for the Mitchell Convalescent Hospital and for a prisoner of war camp.

March 22, 2014 (Campo) – What could be more romantic than a trail ride with wine and cheese tasting awaiting you at the trail’s end? 

On Saturday, April 12, a wine and cheese ride will begin at the Camp Lockett Event & Equestrian Facility at 799 Forrest Gate Road in Campo.  The trail ride includes a tour of Gloriosa Vineyard, heavy hors d’heuvres and wine tasting.

February 10, 2012 (Lemon Grove) In celebration of Black History Month, the Lemon Grove Historical Society hosted members of the San Diego Chapter of the National Association of Buffalo Soldiers. Dressed in authentic uniforms, the speakers—including veterans of the famed regiment and their descendants--explained the history of the Buffalo Soldiers, as well as their importance to the San Diego community.
