HUNDREDS ATTEND SANTEE FIRE DEPARMENT OPEN HOUSE

October 15, 2023 (Santee) -- Santee Fire Department held its Open House on Oct. 7, attracting hundreds of visitors. Children enjoyed interactive activities including face painting and games, as well as boarding fire engines, squirting water with a fire hose and more.

GROSSMONT HEALTHCARE DISTRICT CONTINUES TO SUPPORT BURN INSTITUTE

September 17, 2018 (La Mesa) – The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) is continuing its support of the Burn Institute, a non-profit health agency dedicated to supporting burn survivors and reducing the number of burn injuries and deaths in San Diego County. The GHD board recently approved a $34,000 grant to support the Burn Institute’s community-based fire and burn prevention education program for elementary school students, as well as support services for burn survivors.

BURN INSTITUTE HOSTS FIRE PREVENTION MEETING AT HEALTHCARE LIBRARY IN LA MESA

May 26, 2016 (La Mesa) - The Grossmont Healthcare District’s Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, will host “Fire, Burn and Fall Prevention,” a free presentation from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22. The program is part of the library’s Wellness Wednesday series, normally held on the fourth Wednesday of the month. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served. Advance RSVP is not necessary. Speaking will be Mary Vilgera, community outreach specialist, Burn Institute.

FIRE KILLS PUPPY THAT SAVED FAMILY; FIREFIGHTERS TEAM UP TO INSTALL SMOKE ALARMS FOR NEIGHBORING MOBILE HOMES

September 21, 2012  (Spring Valley)  - On July 12 at 8:45 a.m., San Miguel Firefighters responded to a fully involved mobile home fire located in the 10700 block of Jamacha Blvd. Even though the first unit was on scene in six minutes, the doublewide mobile home could not be saved. Two vehicles were also destroyed and another vehicle damaged.

Five people inside evacuated only after being awakened by the family pet. There was no working smoke alarm in the residence. In the process of alerting and saving the family, the puppy died.

FIREFIGHTER BOOT DRIVE TUESDAY

 
April 2, 2012 (El Cajon) -- Tomorrow,  April  3rd,  firefighters  across  the  county  will  be  at  various intersections collecting donations for the Burn Institute’s “Give Burns The Boot” fundraiser.  Money raised benefits the Burn Institute’s burn prevention programs in the County.
 
Firefighters  from  Heartland  Fire  &  Rescue  in  El  Cajon,  will  be  at  the intersection of Greenfield Drive and East Main Street from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. collecting donations!
