BIRD FLU'S SPREAD FROM POULTRY TO CATTLE TO HUMANS PROVOKES WORRY AMONG FEDS, STATES

The USDA has performed more than 17,000 tests for avian influenza on cattle, with a total of 67 herds affected throughout nine states.

June 10, 2024 (Washington, D.C.) -- Dairy farmers throughout the country are on guard and the federal government is mobilizing after an outbreak among cattle herds of highly pathogenic avian influenza — once thought to be confined to poultry flocks.

COW DOWNED ON ROADWAY NEAR WARNER SPRINGS

 

September 3, 2012 (Warner Springs) – A motorist struck and killed a cow tonight around 8:17 p.m. on  S-2 between Highway 79 and Montezuma Grade, after encountering a herd of cattle in the roadway, the CHP website reports.   

The vehicle, a sedan, left the scene of the accident.  The person who reported the collisions told CHP that he began flashing his lights to alert other drivers.

RESCUED LIVESTOCK READY FOR NEW HOMES

 
Animal Services Looking For “A Few Good Homes”

April 7, 2012 (San Diego County) -- The starving animals rescued from a Campo ranch by County of San Diego Animal Services last December are now ready to be placed into new homes. The livestock includes 10 sheep, 5 goats, 6 cattle, 11 llamas, and 6 horses. Most of the animals may be viewed at the County Shelter in Bonita at 5821 Sweetwater Road, 91902. Four sheep are being housed at the County Shelter in Carlsbad at 2481 Palomar Airport Road, 92011 and can be viewed there.
