On Bookshelf, we sat down with Kirk Kenney, author of 100 Things Every Padres Fan Should Know and Do Before They Die and with former Daily Californian editor Del Hood, author of History in the Headlines. We had coverage of rallies by Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump in San Diego, plus news about hot East County issues from the Alpine high school lawsuit to efforts by local residents to help Iraqi Chaldean refugees.

We covered hot topics from the wildfires raging across California to local issues including a new beekeeping ordinance and safety concerns after a plane crash into a neighborhood near Gillespie Field.  Plus we interviewed fascinating newsmakers, from Carmen Bonilla with Wheelchair Dancers to the Sweetwater Little League competitors (photo, left), plus climate change expert Roger Coppock on local CO2 hotspots and El Cajon Valley High School coach Brent Ford.

Our top newsmaker interviews included representatives from Cleveland National Forest, the County’s Farm to School produce program, a War Victims group seeking reparations for Iraq War refugees, the postal workers’ union on cuts in postal services, a leading solar company on changes in solar incentives for consumers, an environmental advocate battling Soitec Solar’s projects in Boulevard, and La Mesa’s Chamber of Commerce president on honoring local heroes. Plus we interviewed two law-enforcement officers-turned-authors, La Mesa Police Chief Dan Willis and former ICE special agent Timothy Daniels.
