Acorn-clogged heater, CO detector created grave danger

December 7, 2012 (Ramona)--Three people were taken by ambulance to UCSD to be treated for high levels of carbon monoxide yesterday. Fortunately, they were released later and are expected to recover. But their ordeal is a reminder of the importance of inspecting and maintaining furnaces, as well as having a working carbon monoxide detector, County officials warn.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. Thursday, a 911 call was made from the 24000 block of Highway 78 reporting a medical emergency of a patient that was possibly cardiac in nature. Shortly after a second person in the same household became ill, the person making the 911 call became unresponsive to dispatchers. 

SDG&E ENCOURAGES CUSTOMERS TO PREPARE FOR WINTER HEATING SEASON

October 29, 2012 (San Diego) – With the holidays and cooler weather right around the corner, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) is helping customers prepare for the winter season by offering easy tips on how to stay safe and keep warm while also saving money.

“With most home heating systems operated by gas, now is a good time to schedule an appointment to have your heater inspected,” said Caroline Winn, vice president of customer services for SDG&E. “Keeping your furnace and other home gas appliances in good working order is essential to ensure they are running both efficiently and safely.”

12 IN SANTEE HOME TAKEN TO HOSPITAL

 

Update 8:30 p.m. - SDG&E has cleared the scene and determined that no carbon monoxide was present.  The initial call was for a woman suffering stomach pains, a Heartland Fire dispatcher said.  Twelve patients were transported to Grossmont Hospital. It is not yet known what caused the symptoms.

November 26, 2010 (Santee) – Twelve people in a large family are believed to have suffered carbon monoxide poisoning in a home at 9165 Paseo Cresta in Santee tonight. Incident Page Network reports that Sheriff’s officials, emergency medical responders and SDG&E have been summoned to the scene.
