I-8 CLOSED DUE TO FIRE IN PINE VALLEY NEAR BOULEVARD

 

Update: The evacuation warning has been lifted.  One lane of I-8 west has been reopened.

August 6, 2023 -- The #PassFire has burned 10 acres near Ribbonwood Road and Opalacka in Pine Valley near Boulevard. I-8 west is closed, with traffic diverted onto Ribbonwood.

The Sheriff has issued an evacuation warning  with vulnerable people urged to leave, such as those who are disabled, have access issues,or large animals.  

However Cal Fire/San Diego County Fire reports the forward spread has been halted at 10 acres.

Update 6:10 p.m. -- Dozers and hand crews will work through the night to make progress on containment. The bulk of the aircraft have been sent back to their bases and only a few will be on scene tomorrow if needed. A radio report from the Incident Commander to USFS indicates fire is 175 to 200 acres.

August 22, 2022 (Pine Valley) --  The #ValleyFire has scorched over 120 acres in the Pine Valley area and is 0% contained as of 4:40 p.m. The blaze began near Pine Creek Road and Noble Canyon. Pine Creek Road is closed while firefighters battle the blaze.

The fire is spreading away from structures and there are no evacuations at this time. The terrain is steep and isolated and conditions are moderately breezy; the fire is spreading at a moderate rate in heavy brush.

ECM reporter Josh Stotler reports that multiple agencies have responded; there are at least four helicopters and five fixed wing tankers currently dropping water and retardant on the fire as hand crews are trying to cut lines to slow the spread.

NO FAMILY FOUND FOR PINE VALLEY FIRE VICTIM, TWO MONTHS AFTER TRAGEDY

March 6, 2013 (Pine Valley) -- Next of kin has not been notified regarding the death of a Pine Valley man who died in a mobilehome fire back on January 12, 2013.  According to the Medical Examiner, the victim was born August 21, 1945, though his name has not been released.

The charred remains of the victim, who was white, were found after the fire destroyed a residence at 27521 Olde Highway 80, space 82, in Pine Valley. Cal Fire personnel responded to the fire after receiving calls and found the body inside after dousing the fire.

MAN DIES IN PINE VALLEY MOBILEHOME FIRE

Cal Fire and East County Magazine offer heating safety reminders for cold weather

January 13, 2013 (Pine Valley) – Firefighters battling a blaze at a mobilehome park in the 27500 block of Old Highway 80 in Pine Valley last night discovered a man’s body inside after extinguishing the blaze. Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson detectives have ruled out foul play.

Cal Fire spokesman Mike Mohler told ECM that investigators are looking at several potential causes, including the possibility that the victim may have perished due to an old or improperly used heating device in last night’s sub-freezing temperatures.

CAL-FIRE CONDUCTING PRESCRIBED BURN NEAR PINE VALLEY


January 3, 2011 (Pine Valley) – Cal-Fire will be conducting a prescribed burn today through January 7 in the Rancho Corte Madera area southwest of Pine Valley.

Approximately 200 acres of brush will be burned as part of a vegetation management plan aimed at protecting surrounding communities.

The burns will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Smoke will be visible in many areas of the county.

February 7, 2011 (San Diego's East County)-- Cal-Fire will be conducting a controlled burn today and tomorrow south of Pine Valley on the Corte Madera Ranch (south of I-8).

CONTROLLED BURN NEAR PINE VALLEY NOV. 9-10

 

November 8, 2010 (Pine Valley) – Cal-Fire will be burning brush piles on the Corte Madera Ranch south of Pine Valley during the next two days. Smoke will be visible from through the eastern portions of San Diego County. Weather permitting, the burns will begin around 10 a.m. and should be completed by 2 p.m. both days as part of an ongoing vegetation management plan, said Nick Schuler, Cal-Fire battalion chief.

MAN DIES IN ROLLOVER ACCIDENT AT PINE VALLEY

July 7, 2010 (Pine Valley) -- A man is dead of injuries sustained in a rollover accident on I-8 near the Mt. Laguna exit near Pine Valley this afternooon.  The accident caused a small brush fire that was swiftly contained by U.S. Forest Service firefighters.
