March 6, 2019 (El Cajon) -- In recognition of Women’s History Month, designated by Congress in 1987, both Grossmont and Cuyamaca colleges have a number of events planned that are free and open to the public:

HELEN STODDARD, A POWERFUL WOMAN IN EAST COUNTY'S PAST

April 8, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) –April is Women’s History Month.   It’s an appropriate time to share a story about a remarkable woman from East County’s past. Helen Gerrells Stoddard, a former resident of La Mesa , Lemon Grove and Ramona, was a prominent leader in the fight to win women the right to vote,  as well as in the temperance movement. She even earned a place in history at the national political level.

UNION BANK AND KPBS HONOR SEVENTEEN LOCAL HEROES

 
January 25, 2012 (San Diego) -- As part of its ongoing commitment to cultural diversity and responsible banking, Union Bank, N.A., has partnered with KPBS to honor 17 local individuals who are making a difference to enrich the lives of others.  The honorees were announced as part of the 2011 Cultural Diversity Partnership, which recognizes and pays tribute to local heroes from eight diverse communities who are making a difference by improving their workplace, profession, neighborhood, community, region and the world.  The year-long celebration of diversity culminates with an awards ceremony on  February 8, 2012, where recipients will be formally recognized.

 

WOMEN WHO HELPED BUILD SAN DIEGO: FEB. 3 PRESENTATION BY LEMON GROVE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

January 15, 2011 (Lemon Grove)--In celebration of Women's History Month, the Lemon Grove Historical Society will continue its free "History Alive" lectures series on Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. in the H. Lee House Cultural Center, 3205 Olive, Lemon Grove. Ashley Gardner, past president of the Women's Museum of California, presents the story of women who helped to build San Diego County in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
