MEETINGS SET FOR INPUT ON TRAILS AT NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

 

August 22, 2014 (San Diego’s East County) – The San Diego National Wildlife Refuge invites the public to meetings in Spring Valley, Bonita and El Cajon to discuss a draft comprehensive conservation plan and the impact on trail users.  The meetings are set for August 25, August 26, and September 10, all from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the locations listed below.  Comments are accepted through September 17.  For more information see: http://www.fws.gov/refuge/San_Diego/what_we_do/planning.html

EARTH DAY APRIL 20 AT SAN DIEGO NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE





 
San Diego National Wildlife Refuge would like to invite you to Earth Day on Saturday, April 20. Enjoy hiking with a Ranger between the hours of 9:00-11:00 a.m. There will also be educational displays and kids’ activities.
 
The celebration will begin at the old steel bridge trailhead in Rancho San Diego (on Highway 94 just across from the McGrath Famliy YMCA). All ages are welcome. Bring your sturdy hiking shoes along with a hat, water and some snacks. Don’t forget your binoculars if you have them.

UNITED STATES FISH & WILDLIFE SERVICE AND SAN DIEGO MOUNTAIN BIKING ASSOCIATION CREATING SUSTAINABLE TRAILS FOR EAST COUNTY TRAIL USERS

 

February 3, 2013 (San Diego)--On Sunday, 1-20-2013, 27 volunteer members of SDMBA met at the Par Four trail head of the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge (SDNWR) to construct sustainable shared-use single-track trail. The San Diego National Wildlife Refuge includes areas east and west of the Steele Canyon Bridge in Rancho San Diego, as well as Mt. Miguel, Mama Miguel Mountain, and land overlooking the Sweetwater Reservoir in the Otay area. This event is the first time mountain bikers earned the privilege to construct shared-use trails within a National Wildlife Refuge which is administered by the US Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS).

MOUNTAIN BIKING ASSOCIATION TO HELP CONSTRUCT NEW TRAIL JAN. 20 at SAN DIEGO NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

January 15, 2013 (San Diego)--On Sunday, January 20 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the San Diego Mountain Biking Association (SDMBA) will be constructing new sustainable shared-use trails on the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge. The trail-head is located at the end of Par Four Dr., off of Steele Canyon Road. 

Planning for this event took over four years. Design, construction and maintenance will all be by volunteers. 

GO WILD! 15th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AT THE SAN DIEGO NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE APRIL 10

 

April 7, 2011 (Rancho San Diego)—Bring the family to visit with live native animals, join a guided nature hike, get free art and photography lessons, view a firetruck and more this Sunday, April 10.

 

Festivities to celebrate the 15th birthday of the San Diego National Wildlife Refugee will take place near the old steel bridge on Highway 94 at Singer Lane in Rancho San Diego from 1-5 p.m.

March 8, 2011 (Rancho Jamul) – Rangers at the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge in Rancho Jamul invite you to join in an easy to moderate “”Discover Wildflowers” hike with a U.S. Fish & Wildlife service ranger, featuring native plant experts from RECON Environmental Inc. The hike will be held on Saturday, March 26 from 9-10:30 a.m.
