December 14, 2012 (La Mesa) – Last night at approximately 10:54  p.m., the La Mesa Police Department received a report that a female was robbed of her cell phone at the 70th Street Trolley Station, located at 7255 Alvarado Road in La Mesa. The victim reported to officers that just minutes before, she was traveling on the MTS Trolley Green Line from Fashion Valley to the Grossmont Center Station.

When the trolley pulled into the 70th Street Station, the victim was texting on her cell phone while seated near a trolley exit door. The suspect, who was also a passenger on the same train, waited for the exit doors to open near the victim and then approached. The suspect forcefully ripped the victim’s cell phone from her hands causing minor abrasions just as the exit doors began to close. The victim stated she last saw the suspect as he ran from the trolley in an unknown direction along Alvarado Road.

The victim remained on the Green Line Trolley and exited at Grossmont Center Station where she reported the incident to MTS Security Officers. La Mesa Police were then called to investigate.

The suspect in this case is described as a black male adult, 18-20 years old, approximately 5’05” tall. The only clothing description of the suspect was that he was wearing a grey or green hooded sweatshirt.

This investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is urged to call the La Mesa Police Department at (619) 667-1400
