August 10, 2010 (San Diego) -- Sheriff Bill Gore announces the promotion of Commander Ed Prendergast to Assistant Sheriff, Law Enforcement Services. Assistant Sheriff Prendergast is currently assigned oversight for the Alpine, Imperial Beach, Lemon Grove, and Santee Stations, as well as Rural Law Enforcement and Crime Analysis.He is a 29-year veteran with the Sheriff's Department who has served with distinction in every assignment throughout the organization, said Gore.

MOTHER AND SON ARRESTED FOR ABUSE OF DISABLED EL CAJON MAN

 

August 6, 2010 (El Cajon) – Emergency room physicians described the condition of Jeremy Marlow, 28, as the worst case of neglect that they had ever seen. Paramedics brought Marlow, who lived on Graves Avenue in El Cajon, to Grossmont Hospital on January 21. He was unconscious, suffering from infections, covered in open pressure wounds, and weighed less than 100 pounds, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department. He died five days later of pneumonia.

 

Last night his mother, Deborah Marlow, 58, and his brother, Christopher Marlow, 26, were  arrested.  Both are charged with elder abuse, a crime that can be filed against caregivers for abusing a person of any age.

POLICE ARREST MAN FOR COLLEGE EAST MURDER OF MAN FOUND SHOT IN APARTMENT

 

 

August 5, 2010 (San Diego) -- Pierre Martel Terry, 18, was arrested today by San Diego Police homicide detectives for the  murder of Jonathan Pleasant, 24 in late June. He was taken into custody in the 3500 block of College Avenue and booked into County jail.

CLERK SHOT IN ROBBERY ATTEMPT AT ROLANDO EATERY

 

August 3, 2010 (San Diego) – A employee at Wings and Things, 6715 El Cajon Boulevard in the Rolando area, was shot in the leg during an attempted robbery at 9:08 p.m. last night. The suspects, three black male adults in their 20s, were all armed and had their faces covered.

CRIME RATE DOWN IN SAN DIEGO; VIOLENT CRIMES FALL SHARPLY

 

Gang-related homicides down 60%

August 3, 2010 (San Diego) – The City of San Diego had a 3.8% decrease in crimes in the first six months of this year. Violent crimes fell 4.6% decline in violent crimes including murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault. The murder rate fell by one-third (33%), while robberies dropped over 11% and vehicle thefts fell nearly 16%.

 

If the rate continues through year’s end, it will mark the seventh straight year of crime reduction in San Diego. Despite tight budgets, response times to priority calls also became faster. SDPD Chief William Lansdowne announced.

The national event provides opportunities for Neighborhood Watch participants, communities, and law enforcement agencies to celebrate effective crime prevention practices and partnerships. San Diego Sheriff's Department supports Neighborhood Watch, Crime-Free Multi-Housing, Start Smart, and other programs targeting crime and safety, and has crime prevention specialists at all patrol stations dedicated to community education and support.

Eloy Bazan suspected in Lakeside blazes

 

July 30, 2010 (Lakeside)--An arrest has been made in connection with a series of recent vegetation fires in the Lakeside area. The most recent fire occurred last night  near I-8 and Los Coches Road at approximately 10:45 pm. Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire; there was no damage to structures and no one was injured.

July 31, 2010 (Washington D.C.) – U.S. Congressman Bob Filner announced this week that the federal Department of Justice (DOJ) has awarded $320,403 for the San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

 

“We have to work together across city lines if we are going to catch online child predators,” said Filner. “These funds will go to making sure we have the resources to be proactive in investigating and prosecuting those using the internet to commit crimes against children.”

Police seek additional victims of scamster who answered ads and stole victims' IPads

July 28, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – Jesus Sanchez of Santee was arrested yesterday by La Mesa Police for grand theft and robbery after a month long investigation into a Craig’s List scam involving I-Pads. Sanchez turned himself in after police detectives served a search warrant on his house in the 9300 block of Nalini Court, Santee.

SAN DIEGO POLICE DEPARTMENT SEEKS HELP IDENTIFYING MURDER VICTIM

 

July 28, 2010 (East San Diego) -- On July 25, 2010, at approximately 11:31 p.m., a young man was found lying in the eastbound lanes of 6800 Imperial Avenue near 69th Street in the Encanto area. Suffering from stab wounds, he died later that evening. His identity is not known.

 

The victim is white, 18-20 years-old, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 130 lbs., with brown hair and blue eyes. His left upper arm has a tattoo of a religious cross with “est. 1991” above the cross.

POLICE SHOOT MAN WHO THREW KNIFE AT OFFICERS AND TERRORIZED FAMILY

 

July 25, 2010 (Jamacha) – Two San Diego Police officers shot a man in the chest and leg this morning after he reportedly threw a knife at an officer . Neighbors called San Diego Police this morning to report that the man at 6935 Jamacha was breaking windows with a hammer and that children were running around screaming, SDPD reports.

July 25, 2010 (San Diego) – Shortly after 4 a.m. yesterday, San Diego Police officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 3700 block of Ocean View Boulevard, several blocks east of I-15. They found a 43-year-old black woman lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to her head. Witnesses told police they saw the woman talking to at least two black males in dark four-door sedan.

July 25, 2010 (College area) – Two men in their 60s walking on the 4500 block of College Avenue near Acorn Street were robbed at gunpoint at 5:33 a.m. yesterday morning. A black male driving a green Honda two-door pulled up next to the victims, pulled out a handgun and demanded cash.

MOTORIST SHOT IN CITY HEIGHTS

 

 

July 25, 2010 (City Heights) – A 20-year-old driver who stopped at a traffic light at 2:47 a.m. in the 3800 block of University was shot by a pedestrian who fired four rounds at him with a semi-automatic handgun. The assailant is described as a black male adult, 5’5”, 180 pounds, wearing all black clothing.

MOM PACKS A WALLOP: WOMAN WITH TODDLER ROBBED AT GROSSMONT CENTER PARKING LOT, PUNCHED THIEF IN FACE

 

 

July 24, 2010 (La Mesa) – A woman holding her three-year-old son in one arm and a wallet and cell phone in her other hand was accosted at 9:45 last night in the Target parking lot at Grossmont Center. A man grabbed her arm and attempted to take her wallet and phone.  A struggle ensued.  The victim punched the suspect in the face and fled to her vehicle, managing to hold onto her wallet, but her phone was stolen.

July 23, 2010 (San Diego)—A criminal complaint was unsealed today charging 43 defendants with participating in a federal racketeering (RICO) conspiracy. The RICO conspiracy alleged involves the commission of both state and federal crimes, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, drug trafficking and money laundering offenses. The complaint accuses defendants of being members and associates of the Fernando Sanchez Organization (FSO), an offshoot of the Arellano-Felix drug-trafficking cartel.

POLICE NAB CAB ROBBER IN LA MESA

July 16, 2010 (La Mesa) – A suspect accused of robbing a cab driver at knifepoint in La Mesa has been arrested, La Mesa Police report. The cab driver became suspicious after the suspect directed him to pull over several times in areas that were dark and remote. Instead, the driver stopped his cab in the 7900 block of La Mesa Boulevard at 1:30 a.m. and asked for his fare.

LA MESA POLICE ARREST 2 ROBBERS; 3RD REMAINS AT LARGE

 

July 10, 2010 (La Mesa)—La Mesa Police have arrested two juveniles for stealing a woman’s wallet in front of the Von’s store at 9011 University Avenue. A third suspect remains at large.

 

Police received a call reporting the robbery at 8:21 p.m. The 21 year-old victim was in the Vons parking lot when the three suspects approached her from behind. One grabbed the victim’s wallet and forcibly took it. All three suspects ran away while witnesses chased them.

HIT AND RUN DRIVER KILLS FOUR-YEAR-OLD

 

July 9, 2010 (East San Diego) – Samuel Metu has been arrested for felony hit-and-run. Metu was the driver of a 2000 Toyota Corolla that struck and killed a four-year-old boy in the 6700 block of Madrone Avenue in the Skyline neighborhood shortly before noon today.

This legislation closes a loophole in state law that allowed a spouse convicted of soliciting the murder of a husband or wife to reap financial benefits such as community property in retirement and pension benefits from the injured spouse.
