July 7, 2010 (Encanto) - San Diego Police Department seeks public help to locate a 2007 Dodge Charger, California license 6FOV930, which was carjacked last night at 9:55 p.m. A Hispanic man with a shaved head ran up to the driver, a 33-year-old woman driving her friend’s car, as she pulled up to 305 61st Street. He ordered her out of the car at gunpoint and stole the vehicle.

DRIVER OF STOLEN CAR JUMPS TO HIS DEATH IN SANTEE

 

July 5, 2010 (Santee) – Januario Natividad Ancheta, 37, leaped to his death off the northbound State Route 125 connector to State Route 52 in Santee last night, the San Diego Medical Examiner’s office reports. He had been pulled over by California Highway Patrol officers and was driving a black Subaru WXR sedan that had been reported stolen.

POLICE CHIEF’S SON SHOOTS KNIFE-WIELDING MAN IN EL CAJON

 

July 3, 2010 (El Cajon) – Responding to calls of a man chasing people with a large hunting-type knife yesterday morning, El Cajon motorcycle officer Nick Sprecco spotted the suspect in a Jack-in-the-Box parking lot at 2nd and Madison. According to police, the suspect approached the officer, knife in hand, ignoring repeated orders to halt.

July 3, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – Michael Eugene Richardson, whose wife and mother-in-law have been identified as homicide victims in a staged car crash in Lakeside, has an extensive criminal past, investigations reveal.  Court records in North Carolina indicate Richardson was convicted of robbing and shooting a cab driver in 1976. He served six years of a 30 year sentence before escaping while out with a roadside work crew.

HOMICIDE VICTIMS IN 67 CRASH IDENTIFIED; HUSBAND ARRESTED

July 1, 2010 (Lakeside) -- Two women found dead at the scene of a car crash off Highway 67 Tuesday in Lakeside have been identified as Thao Richardson, 57, and her mother, Than Lyi, 72. Today, Sheriff’s officers arrested Michael Eugene Richardson, 57, for statutory rape of his 17-year-old niece.

 

An investigation into the crash has concluded that it was staged.  Authorities on the scene told ECM that “suspicious evidence” was found. Richardson has not yet been charged with the double murder, but he is considered “the only person of interest” in those deaths by Sheriff’s officials, according to other media reports today.

July 1, 2010 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police are seeking a suspect who robbed Wells Fargo Bank in Grossmont Center at 12:25 p.m.

“A red dye pack exploded,” dispatch supervisor Charles Howshar informed East County Magazine. “He was last seen on foot running from the area and we are currently looking for him.”

June 30, 2010 (Lakeside) – San Diego Sheriff’s Department today announced that it is investigating the deaths of two women found yesterday as homicides. The bodies were found approximately a mile and a half north of Slaughterhouse Canyon off the eastbound side of Highway 67 in Lakeside after a neighboring property owner reported that he had found a dark blue vehicle that plunged 200 to 300 feet down an embankment.

CAMPO MAN ARRESTED, CHARGED WITH DEATH OF BABY DAUGHTER

 

June 29, 2010 (Campo) – Luis Alberto Duran, 21, of Campo was arrested yesterday and charged with assault resulting in the death of his infant daughter.

 

On Friday, deputies and paramedics were called to the family’s home in the 1800 block of Campo Truck Trail after receiving a medical assistance call reporting a four-month-old infant who was not breathing. The baby, who exhibited no outward signs of trauma, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two possible suspects seen fleeing scene

June 29, 2010 (San Diego) -- San Diego Police Department homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man inside a College East apartment. Around 11:45 a.m., officers were dispatched to 7240 El Cajon Boulevard on a report of a person shot. They found a male inside an apartment who had suffered an apparent gunshot wound. Paramedics attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim died at the scene at 12:10 p.m.

June 25, 2010 (El Cajon) – An undercover operation by the El Cajon Police Department yesterday targeted males soliciting acts of prostitution from women on the streets of El Cajon. With assistance from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, 14 individuals were arrested yesterday during the six-hour operation.

BOY ESCAPES KIDNAPPER IN ROLANDO PARK : POLICE SEEK BEARDED MAN IN BLUE VAN

June 24, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – San Diego Police report that a man in a faded and rusted blue van tried to kidnap a 12-year-old boy who was walking home from school at 5:23 p.m. today. The man, described as a white man in his 30s or 40s with a long beard, ordered the boy to get in the van in the 3800 block of Demas Street in the Rolando area of San Diego, just west of La Mesa. When the boy refused, the man got out and grabbed the victim, ripping the boy's shirt.

June 20, 2010 (San Diego) – San Diego Police seek two African-American men in a sedan who accosted a 31-year-old woman in the 5000 block of College Avenue near San Diego State University at 6:35 p.m. last night. One of the men asked the victim if he could use her cell phone. When she approached the car, he grabbed her phone and the driver drove away, dragging the woman about 60 feet.

BOYS HUNTING RABBITS CAUGHT SHOOTING LASER AT SHERIFF'S HELICOPTER

June 14, 2010 (Lakeside) –It was a scene worthy of Elmer Fudd hunting down "wascally wabbits" -- only this time, the hunters were the rascals.

 

San Diego Sheriff’s ASTREA 3 helicopter was struck by a laser around 10:03 p.m. last night while flying over Lakeside.  The chopper crew located two boys, ages 15 and 12,  near Idyl Drive and Lakeview Grenada Drive and notified Sheriff's deputies.  Under questioning, the youths admitted that they had targeted the helicopter at least twenty times while hunting rabbits with bows and arrows.

June 14, 2010 (El Cajon) – A frightening ordeal was experienced by party-goers at a home located in the 300 block of Sunnybrook Lane in El Cajon’s unincorporated area. Last night at 11:15 p.m., several men entered the residence armed with handguns and tasers. The host and guests were tied up with zip ties and duct tape; some victims were tasered when thieves demanded cash and jewelry.

POLICE OFFICERS INJURED, 13 VEHICLES DAMAGED BY WRONG-WAY DRIVER

 

June 11, 2010 (San Diego) – A man driving a pickup truck the wrong way on 43rd Street in the Talmadge neighborhood refused to pull over for a police officer. A high-speed pursuit ensued, with additional officers joining the pursuit. While crossing Altadena in the 5000 block of Orange Avenue, the truck ran a stop sign and struck a police car at a high speed from the front right side, damaging both vehicles badly. The truck then hit 13 other parked vehicles.

June 9, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – Two robbers held up a Wells Fargo Branch on Navajo Road near State Route 125 in the Lake Murray area at 9:45 this morning. “They burst in and ordered customers to the floor,” an employee at another Wells Fargo branch informed ECM, adding that the robbers wore ski masks. A San Diego Police bulletin indicates thieves wore dark pants and hooded sweatshirts.

June 8, 2010 (Poway) – The “Geezer Bandit” has struck for the tenth time, robbing the U.S. Bank at 14837 Pomerado Road in Poway (inside Albertsons grocery store) yesterday at 2:54 p.m.

 

The FBI, San Diego Police Department and San Diego Sheriff’s Department are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the unknown male bank robber believed responsible for holding up 10 banks in San Diego County since August 2009.

June 7, 2010 (San Diego) – San Diego Police have mounted a manhunt for a man who assaulted a 14-year-old girl this morning in Kensington. The girl was walking north on 41st Street near Monroe Avenue at 9:30 a.m. when a Hispanic man in his 30s with a goatee and a tattoo on his right forearm grabbed her, threw her to the ground and tried to rape her.

CHELSEA’S LAW PASSES ASSEMBLY

June 3, 2010 (Sacramento) By a unanimous 65-0 vote, the state Assembly today passed Chelsea’s Law, AB 1844.  Named for murdered Poway High School student Chelsea King, the measure toughens penalties on child predators and creates a one-strike law for the most serious offenders.
