September 22, 2019 (San Diego) - The Aztec football team (3-1, 0-1) suffered their first loss of the 2019 season falling to Utah State (2-1, 1-0) 23-17 at SDCCU Stadium Saturday evening.

After the Aztecs scored a field goal on their opening possession, the Aggies responded with 23 unanswered points to take a 20-point lead early in the third quarter. SDSU quarterback Ryan Agnew threw a pair of fourth quarter touchdown passes to bring the Aztecs within six points with 5:19 remaining.

The 2020 slate includes 36 home games and five opponents who made the NCAA Tournament in 2019. Additionally, Tony Gwynn Stadium will be the site of the Mountain West Championships for the second time in the last three years.

Greg Garcia came in as a pinch hitter for the San Diego Padres as he went 1 for 1 with a single as they defeated the Chicago Cubs 9-8 in 10 innings. 
 
Helix and Stanford alum Jack Stronach went 1 for 4 with a single and one RBI for the Tri City Dust Devils in game three of the Northwest League finals, where they were defeated by the Hillsboro Hops 2-1 and trail two games to one.

September 14, 2019 (Santa Clara) - The Aztec men’s soccer team (2-2-1) played Santa Clara to a 1-1 draw Saturday evening at Buck Shaw Field.

Santa Clara scored in the 40th minute but then saw their goalkeeper be issued a red card in the 64th minute. The Aztecs tied the match up in the 76th minute on a Keegan Kelly header and had a flurry of opportunities in the final minutes of regulation and extra time but couldn’t find the back of the net.

September 14, 2019 (La Mesa) - Week four of ECM Friday Night Lights promises to be a good one.  We went to Helix High School, where senior running back and all-time Helix career rushing leader Elelyon Noa and the Highlanders hosted the Dons of Cathedral Catholic.  Helix is 1-1 coming off of a bye week. Helix has Noa. The Dons have Catholics and some of the best athletes in San Diego. Let’s dive right in.

September 7 - Baseball
 
Grossmont High alum Ben Brault started on the mound for the Pittsburgh Pirates as he pitched 5.1 innings, gave up six hits, six runs (five earned), two walks and struck out two as the Pirates were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals 10-1.  With the bat, Brault went 1 for 2 with a single. 
 
Helix alum DaShawn Keirsey Jr. went 2 for 4 with one double, one run scored and one RBI for the Cedar Rapids Kernels as they defeated the Quad City Bandits 4-2.  The Bandits win the series two games to one.
 
Jack Stronach went 1 for 4 with a double for the Tri City Dust Devils as they fell to the Hillsboro Hops 5-3 and trail in the Northwest League Champion Finals by one.
