ECM FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: PATRIOTS WIN WILD ONE FOR FIRST WIN ON NEW TURF

September 7, 2019 (San Diego) - Week three of ECM Friday Night Lights takes us to Patrick Henry High’s brand new field.  So far, it’s been the site of a big 30-point loss to Morse last week. But the Patriots are faring well at 1-1. Last night, they finally got to host their annual matchup against Monte Vista.  These two met last year, where now-UCLA Bruin Jahmon McClendon ran circles around the Patriots, resulting in a 42-9 Monte Vista win. The Monarchs are coming in at 1-1 as well, winning 28-14 last week against Rancho Buena Vista.

SDSU FOOTBALL: AZTECS SHUT OUT WEBER STATE 6-0 IN SEASON OPENER

August 31, 2019 (San Diego) - SDSU kicked off their football season today against Weber State at SDCCU Stadium. Ryan Agnew debuted as the Aztecs quarterback against the Wildcats defense. The Aztecs tried to build momentum early, which only resulted in early turnovers. Weber State tried to pick up momentum and almost scored on a punt return with 4:25 left in the second quarter only to be brought back by a holding penalty on the offense. Before the beginning of halftime, the Aztecs led a charge past midfield and almost made it all the way to the end zone until falling short and had to settle for a field goal.

August 25
 
El Capitan product Kevin Ginkel came in relief for the Arizona Diamondbacks as he pitched one inning and struck out one batter as the Dbacks defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2. 
 
West Hills product Steve Strasburg started for the Washington Nationals as he pitched six innings, gave up five hits, two runs (two earned), one walk and struck out 10.  Strasburg didn't register the win, but the Nationals defeated the Chicago Cubs 7-5.

August 31, 2019 (Brea, Calif.) - The Aztec cross country team finished in eighth place out of 21 teams at the Mark Covert Classic 5k at Carbon Canyon Regional Park in Brea, Calif. Saturday morning. Sophomores Carlene Masar and Marissa D’Atri paced the Aztecs with a time of 19:15.4.

The Norsemen are coming off a big win against University City last week, while the Wolf Pack are also 1-0 after beating Southwest El Centro.

August 30, 2019 (San Diego) - The Aztec men’s soccer team fell 3-2 to San Diego in their season opener. Playing in front of 1,687 raucous fans, the Aztecs held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 but saw Torero forward Miguel Berry score two second half goals in a five-minute span to secure the win for USD.

August 30, 2019 (Fort Myers, Fla.) - The San Diego State volleyball team opened its 2019 campaign in convincing fashion Friday, posting a pair of 3-0 sweeps over Akron (25-20, 25-19, 25-18) and Bryant (25-22, 25-16, 25-13) on the first day of the FGCU Homewood Suites Fort Myers Classic inside Alico Arena. With the victories, the Aztecs registered their first 2-0 start to a season since 2013.

August 22, 2019 (San Diego) - Kiera Utush, a freshman from Rocklin, Calif., scored on a penalty kick five minutes into the second half to put the San Diego State women’s soccer team on the scoreboard, but it wasn’t enough to defeat the No. 22 Texas Tech Red Raiders on Thursday night.  SDSU (0-1-0) came out on the short end of a 6-1 decision in both team’s season opener.

Helix High School and UCLA Bruins product Jack Stronach went 2 for 3 with one single and one double for the Tri City Dust Devils as they defeated the Salem Keizer Volcanos 5-2.
