PROBATION CLOSES CAMP BARRETT, LAUNCHES NEW URBAN CAMP

 

 

After years of steadily decreasing populations across the County’s in-custody juvenile facilities, the County of San Diego’s Probation Department has closed the last remote camp program and moved the youth to a more centrally located Urban Camp facility in Kearny Mesa.

June 4, 2017 (Campo) – A report by the San Diego County Grand Jury issued May 30th proposed consolidating juvenile detention facilities and closing Camp Barrett in a remote area of Alpine near Descanso, 35 miles from San Diego.

Youth from the Juvenile Ranch Facility will be moved to the Camp Barrett facility by early August.

July 3, 2015 (Camp Barrett)--Plunging juvenile populations are prompting San Diego County Probation to consolidate operations of its two camps for young people: Juvenile Ranch Facility in Campo and Camp Barrett youth facility in rural Alpine. Both camps house male youths.
