TIM LOVELACE TO PERFORM JULY 22 IN EL CAJON

July 15, 2012 (El Cajon) -- Tim Lovelace, a Christian comedian, singer and motivational speaker, will perform July 22 at 5:00 p.m. at the El Cajon Wesleyan Church, 1500 East Lexington Ave., El Cajon.  Lovelace uses humor to motivate and inspire by sharing life lessons.  He is also an accomplished player of the piano, guitar, banjo, mandolin and more.

The doors will open at 4:00 p.m. for this fun-filled family event.   The suggested donation for the event is $10 per person or $25 per family.

POWAY LIBRARY HOSTS WOODY GUTHRIE’S 100th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION JULY 14

 

July 13, 2012 (Poway)--Woody Guthrie lived through the most significant events of the twentieth century, forging his talents as a prolific writer who, through his songs, prose and poetry, told the story of everyman.

San Diego County Library joins people around the world in celebrating Guthrie's life and influence. Woody Guthrie's 100th Birthday Celebration will be held at the Poway Library, 13137 Poway Road on Saturday, July 14 at 2 p.m.  San Diego musicians will band together in a free concert to honor the famed singer, who still has a profound impact even 45 years after his death.

ART IN THE PARK: MISSION TRAILS JULY 14

July 12, 2012 (Mission Trails) -- The Mission Trails Regional Park Foundation and the California Art Club will present Treasures of the Mission Trails Regional Park Art Exhibit and Benefit on July 14 from 6-8:30 p.m.

Renowned Native American Flute Player Tim Romero will be performing and George Cowles, East County resident circa 1873-1883, will return in character. The event will also include fine art, fine wine, cheese and chocolate.

FREE FRANK SINATRA TRIBUTE AT VIEJAS JULY 13

 

July 12, 2012 (Alpine)—Old blue eyes is back—at least in spirit.  Frank Sinatra impersonator Monty Aidem will perform a free tribute concert on Friday, July 13 from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight in the V Lounge at Viejas Casino.  Aidem has performed at top casinos in Las Vegas and other major venues.

Beginning July 12, visitors to Westfield Horton Plaza and Westfield North County will be treated to free performances by local Taylor Guitars artists, including Americana revivalists, The Silent Comedy and Lexington Field, as well as singer-songwriters Oliver Trolley and Chi McClean.

July 3, 2012 (El Cajon) – The Wieghorst Museum Foundation is hosting an art show from July 3 through August 31, every Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The participating artists include Jack Jordan, James Kermott, Mark Martensen, Ross Provence and Grace Schlesier.

ECPAC FOUNDATION MAKES ITS CASE

June 27, 2012 (El Cajon)– At a press conference on June 22, members of the new ECPAC Foundation provided details to media on their proposal to reopen the East County Performing Arts Center (ECPAC) in time for the city’s centennial celebration in November.

Leaders presented City Manager Doug Williford with their 60-page plan in a meeting that extended from a planned 10-15 minutes to an hour and a half.  Foundation members expressed optimism, noting that Williford asked many questions and showed genuine interest in plans to revive the theater with innovative and cost-effective improvements.

LYRICS AND LAVENDER MUSIC FESTIVAL JUNE 30

ECPAC FOUNDATION TO SUBMIT PLAN TODAY TO SAVE EAST COUNTY PERFORMING ARTS CENTER (ECPAC)

 

Public urged to attend and support call to save the theater; plan will reopen venue before City’s Centennial celebration this fall and calls for phased renovation

June 21, 2012 (El Cajon) – After objecting to a proposal by the City of El Cajon to demolish East County Performing Arts Center (ECPAC) and build a hotel on the site, community members have united around a goal of saving the theater, forming the ECPAC Foundation.

At a recent meeting, Council voted to reject a developer’s proposal to tear down the theater, then invited ECPAC Foundation to submit a proposal to save the venue.

Today, the organization will hold a press conference at El Cajon City Hall, 200 Civic Center Way, at 3 p.m. to outline its proposal.  The group will submit an extensive plan for operating the theater to the City Manager at 3:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to come show support to save ECPAC.

June 19, 2012 (Santee) – The city of Santee’s Summer Concert Series kicked off its 29th year on June 14 with The Destroyers, Navy Band Southwest.  The concert was accompanied by a food truck rally. 

The nine-concert series features the return of three musical acts that attracted sizeable crowds last year, as well as an eclectic lineup of 7 other bands that range from country to classic rock. Performances are every Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. through August 16, except July 5.

LOCAL ARTIST TAKES AWARD AT SAN DIEGO WATERCOLOR SOCIETY’S JUNE SHOW, RUNNING CLEAR.

 
June 13, 2012 (San Diego) -- La Mesa resident Chuck McPherson took the First Place Award at the San Diego Watercolor Society’s June Member Show with his painting Trickle Down Effect.  The juror recognized Chuck’s painting for excellent design and how he captured the texture of the rounded rocks and depth in the stream. More of Chuck’s work can be seen at his website http://artthatsells.net.  Chuck will be demonstrating at the San Diego Fair June 23, 11-6; June 24, 11-6; July 3, 12-4 and July 4 from 12–4.

One of those is Domenico Donato’s “Mangia Bene” Italian restaurant located directly across from the theater which opened a decade ago.

EXPRESSIONISTIC PAINTINGS AT LA MESA HEALTH LIBRARY

 
June 10, 2012 (La Mesa) -- The Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library is featuring an exhibit of 15 landscape paintings by Santee artist Barbara McVey through the month of June.
 
McVey worked at schools with special education students until she retired in 1999. Then, she taught art history and the history of famous artists at elementary schools for five years. Today, she focuses on her artwork. Her exhibition at the Herrick Library features abstract watercolor and oil pastel paintings.
