October 11, 2020 (La Mesa – El Cajon) – Republican Jim Stieringer, who is running for the Grossmont Union High School District’s Area 2 seat, has sent a deceptive mailer to some voters in La Mesa, El Cajon, Mt. Helix and Casa de Oro.  It reads, “East County Voters – Let’s support our progressive team!”  The flyer includes photos of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, as well as Democratic Congressional candidates Ammar Campa-Najjar and Sara Jacobs, Democratic Assemblymember Shirley Weber, and Stieringer.

There are three candidates in the race. Although this is officially a nonpartisan race and party affiliations do not appear on the ballot, both major parties have made endorsements. Elva Salinas, the incumbent and a community college professor, is the only candidate endorsed by the Democratic Party as well as the teacher’s union. The other two candidates, Stieringer and Justin Slagle, have both been long-serving Republicans but only Slagle is endorsed by the GOP.

Stieringer also refers to himself as the “high school district’s newest member” on the flip side of the mailer. He fails to mention that he lost reelection as a GUHSD trustee to Salinas in 2016 when the district shifted from at-large elections to trustee districts.

Area 2 includes a substantially higher Democratic registration than the district at large. Stieringer is a familiar name to many, since he previously served on the Grossmont Healthcare District board and the La Mesa City Council. The mailer states that was paid for by the James Stieringer for School Board 2020 campaign.

Slagle was formerly a trustee on the Cajon Valley Union School District board, which has had numerous controversies. He teaches in the Del Mar school district, according to his bio and the district website. He is also an award-winning theater instructor at Tri-City Christian school in Vista, according to the school district's website.

Stieringer comments on mailer.

Jim Stieringer sent an email including these comments regarding his mailer:

1.     I have never claimed to be a Democrat

2.     My political ads comply fully with the requirements of the California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) by clearly showing my identification number and the fact that they are paid by my campaign.

3.     I do not claim an endorsement by any political party. In fact the San Diego Republican Party chose another candidate for their endorsement.

4.     My reference to “…Board’s newest member” is clearly presented in the subjunctive sense, i.e. that if elected I will be the board’s newest member.

I take pride in my independence. The San Diego Republican party chose to endorse another candidate. They probably realize that my views on core issues such as “Obamacare” and “Dreamers” do not coincide with the party’s stance.

With regard to the “Dreamers”, most of whom are Latino, I have worked with and worked for Latinos for many years. I have found that their work ethic far exceeds most Anglos’ willingness to work, including my own work ethic. The nation would be improved if they were provided an opportunity to travel a pathway to citizenship. The tone deaf Republicans are missing an opportunity.

Similarly I find that the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”) is now the law of the land and is working reasonably well now that the “individual mandate” was essentially removed. After eight years it is well “baked in” to the fabric of Americans’ lives. Further the Republicans have never proffered an acceptable substitute for the ACA although the President says it is “coming next week” (This is similar to waiting for Godot.).

California Republicans setting up fake 'official' ballot boxes

It is not only Jim Stieringer who is deceiving voters. The now default behavior of Republicans is to cheat. Republican shenanigans in California have made the national news today. https://news.yahoo.com/california-republicans-allegedly-setting-fake-043500622.html California's attorney general is investigating fake ballot drop boxes set out by the California Republican Party. Note the projection. You have heard the endless complaints that the other party is harvesting ballots, so sure enough, when someone is actually caught red handed, it is the Republicans themselves. They are projecting their own planned criminal behavior onto others. Be sure to check with the Registrar of voters to determine if a drop off ballot box is real. Don't let the Republicans intercept your vote. Resist their criminal attempts to delegitimize our democracy.

foul mouthed sock puppet without courage

8East, if not an actual Russian asset, is somebody without the courage to use his real name. And has been caught using multiple accounts to appear larger than they actually are. The signers of the Declaration of Independence - patriots who were willing to put their lives on the line with their signatures - would look severely and with shame on this person, if indeed, 8East is an actual U.S. Citizen. Republicans like this, with their yellow streak, standing behind the skirts of the internet, quivering in self loathing, shame and fear, represent their party very well these days.

Foul mouthed?

Why do you always resort to name calling, Brett? Name calling I've heard is not allowed on this site, although in my experience the rules only apply to one side...we'll see. Why are you always so interested in my real name too, why should you care? I'm happily married, so if your interest lies there I'm letting you know now I'm flattered, but not interested. All of the above assumptions you've made of me along with the associated accusations are meaningless, your opinion simply doesn't matter. "Nobody needs to justify why they "need" a right: the burden of justification falls on the one seeking to infringe upon the right. But even if they did, you can't give away the rights of others because they're not useful to you. More simply, the majority cannot vote away the natural rights of the minority. Arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say." - Edward Snowden

Yes

I'm going to call out bad actors. It is a responsibility of good citizens to do so, and I take it seriously. Welcome to your world.

I see....

So you get to decide who the "bad actors" are and righteously declare yourself a "good citizen". Whatever you say, comrade. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I hope so

I hope you do see. I know it is hard to digest, but it is real. https://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/capitol-alert/article246175260.html

Irrelevant.

California is a one party state and has been for years. Yes, we've had a few Republican governors, but the senate and assembly have remained Blue for over 30 years. Anyone who understands politics will not argue the fact that a Governor has little power to implement change without one, or both branches behind him/her. The tax and spend policies of the Democrats have destroyed many of the once beautiful cities and states throughout this country. I'll be the first to admit neither are perfect, but the metrics don't lie, the same policies running CA into the ground can be seen all across this country. Take a look at this most recent study from the Mercatus Center which identifies the least/most fiscally solvent states in the Nation: State Fiscal Rankings Then, take a look at which of our 50 states have remained Democratic and see where they reside within those fiscal rankings. States That Have Consistently Remained Democratic You don't have to be a rocket scientist to make the connection that the most consistently blue states are also the most financially irresponsible. I'd be willing to bet that the same holds true for having the highest taxes and the highest crime rate too. If these numbers aren't important to you now, I'll wager they will be at some point in your life when you decide/try to retire and realize the impact CA's unfunded pension deficit will have on your income.
