WATER CONSERVATION GARDEN ANNOUNCES JULY CLASSES & ACTIVITIES

July 10, 2015 (Rancho San Diego)—From “dog days” strolls with your canine companion to classes on turf-tossing and glass-making, a stargazing party, a wine walk and an evening of music with the San Diego Concert Band, the Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College has a wealth of enriching activities and events coming up later in July.

THE EIGHTH ANNUAL heART OF MT. HELIX – TICKETS ON SALE AND MASTER OF CEREMONIES ANNOUNCED

Tickets are on sale for the Eighth Annual heART of Mt. Helix held at East County’s most recognizable landmark, the memorial cross and historic amphitheater atop Mt. Helix. The Park is pleased to announce Tom Karlo, KPBS General Manager, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for this Park fundraiser.

The sunset event will be held on August 15 from 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm and will feature vignettes by local performing and visual artists. After enjoying the 360 degree view and listening to two stages of local musicians perform, guests can dance under the stars to the Mighty Untouchables, a well known San Diego band. Mt. Helix painters Nora Clemens, Debi Nicols, Roz Oserin, Penelope Quirk, and Wood Turner Sally Ault will each be demonstrating their technique to showcase the variety of visual arts talent in East County.

PNE VALLEY DAYS JULY 24-25 INCLUDES PARADE AND FREE MUSIC FESTIVAL

 

July 10, 2015 (San Diego's East County) - The Mountain Empire Men’s Club will present Pine Valley Days on July 24th and 25th.  This mountain town’s annual summer event includes a parade rolling out on July 25th  at 9 a.m., plus other activities both days at the Pine Valley Park (28810 Old Highway 80, Pine Valley).  The fun begins with a deep pit BBQ dinner on Friday night with live music and dancing under the stars to Barbwire, the North American Country Music Association International’s New Country Band of the Year for 2015 and other entertainers. There will also be a craft village, a free music festival, kids’ zone, food from local vendors and more.

Years later, the La Mesa father decided his time had come.  After watching many children's shows both good and bad, he decided he could put together a movie kids would watch and  that parents would approve. Olivia's Island Adventure will premiere at the San Diego Performing Arts Center (4579 Mission Gorge Place, San Diego, CA 92120) on July 10-11, 2015 @ 6:45pm.

GOT CRIME? SHERIFF OFFERS NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH TRAINING JULY 17 FOR ALL EAST COUNTY RESIDENTS

 

July 6, 2015 (Lakeside) – Residents across East County are invited to a Neighborhood Watch training program put on by staff of the Lakeside Sheriff Substation. The training will be held on Friday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lakeside Community Center, 99841 Vine Street in Lakeside.

RAMONA FIREWORKS SHOW SAVED

July 3, 2015 (Ramona) – On June 29, we reported that this could be the last year for the Ramona fireworks show, since the Ramona Rotary Club had fallen short of raising the enormous funds needed for the display.  Fortunately, the Club has now reached its fundraising goal, the Ramona Home Journal reports in an e-mail sent to its readers.

FREE SUMMER MOVIE IN THE PARK

June 30, 2015 (La Mesa) --  On Friday, July 24, at La Mesita Park, the City of La Mesa presents the movie “Despicable Me 2” (rated PG).  The Movie starts at 8:00 pm with pre-show entertainment at 7:30 pm.  La Mesita Park is located adjacent to the Junior Seau Sports Complex at 8855 Dallas Street, La Mesa.  This is FUN family entertainment at its best -“Movie Night Under the Stars.”

CAMP BOW WOW ANNOUNCES “YAPPY HOUR” SEASON AT DOWNTOWN CAFE

June 30, 2015 (El Cajon)--Camp Bow Wow and Behavior Buddies of El Cajon will host their 5th Annual Yappy Hour season at the Downtown Café in El Cajon. The Yappy Hour is held every third Thursday of the month from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. The event includes “puptinis” for pups, a happy hour menu and more.

 In addition to a fun social event, each Yappy Hour is dedicated to raising money for a local charity, with this year’s proceeds benefitting Labs and More Dog Rescue.

Through sales of opportunity drawing tickets, participants will be entered to win many fabulous opportunity-drawing prizes. The pups will enjoy free Puptini’s while owners can order off of the Downtown Café’s delicious Happy Hour Menu.

RAMONA FIREWORKS SHOW ON JULY 4 COULD BE FINAL DISPLAY

June 29, 2015 (Ramona) --  The annual Ramona Fireworks display, synchronized to music, will be held on July 4th at 9 p.m. at the Ramona High School football field, after a pre-fireworks picnic and activities at Olive Pierce Middle School.  But the Ramona Rotary Club, which organizes the display, has come up short despite substantial community fundraising efforts and warns that unless substantial donations or sponsors are received, this will be the last fireworks show in Ramona.

June 25, 2015 (Ramona) – It’s summertime and the living is easy – especially at Grant James Vineyard in Ramona, where dinners are served al fresco every Friday night from 6 to 7:30 p.m.  Something Delicious will serve up pasta, salad and bread on the patio with vineyard views.

The winery also hosts Gourmet Foodie Potluck parties. The next one is on June 27th  at 6 p.m.  “This is a great way to share your favorite homemade dish and meet new friends,” the invitation sent to winery customers entices.

ONE WORLD SOCCER FEST: JULY 11 AT SANTEE SPORTSPLEX USA

 

June 25, 2015 (Santee) -- With the slogan "changing lives one goal at a time" the One World Soccer Fest will kick off at the Sportsplex USA Santee (9851 Riverwalk Drive, Santee) on Saturday, July 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit the Chisomo Idea and the Homeless World Cup.  Soccer carnival games and a mini soccer clinic are all part of the day's fun, as well as viewing a round-robin soccer tournament.

JULIAN GOLD RUSH DAYS BRINGS HISTORY ALIVE JUNE 27-28

 

 

June 17, 2015 (Julian)--Experience the history of the Old West with costumed hosts who interpret what life was like in a California mining camp in the 1880s at the Julian Gold Rush Days on June 27th and 28th.  

There are activities throughout the  historic gold-mining town, from gold panning to gunfighting, a chance to meet historical reenactors and much more. This year's host is the Julian Mining Company.

BLUES BASH AT MENGHINI WINERY JUNE 20TH

 

The 17th annual Blues Bash will be held at Menghini Winery in Julian on Saturday, June 20 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  The music fest will include Jonathon Boogie Long and the Blues Revolution from Louisiana, crowned “King of the Blues” by Guitar Center. The event also features wine-tasting and dancing.

SANTEE KICKS OFF SUMMER CONCERT SERIES

June 18, 2015 (Santee)—The City of Santee opens its 32nd annual summer concert season this Thursday, June 18th with the classic rock band, the Cat*illacs. It’s the first of 10 concerts in the Town Center Community Park East.  The concerts will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. each Thursday night from now through August 27th, (except for the July 4th holiday weekend).

OLYMPICS DAY IN EL CAJON: JOIN THE FUN JUNE 13

 

June 4, 2015 (El Cajon)--The spirit of the Olympic Movement will roll into El Cajon as LionHeart Academy hosts a celebration of Olympic Day for the community. This event is one of over 1,100 in the country being held in June. LionHeart Academy’s celebration will take place from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 13, 2015. The location is 1331 N.
