COUNCIL ADOPTS ITS SUSTAINABLE SANTEE ACTION PLAN

January 12, 2020 (Santee) -- The city of Santee is, like most small cities in the state, strapped for funds. Councilmembers are unhappy about complying with the many mandates promulgated by what they view as the big, bad guys in Sacramento.
 
The City Council finally got to scratch one lingering mandate off its list last week when it unanimously approved its Sustainable Santee Action Plan.

April 21,2016 (Lakeside) – You’re invited to a fun and festive Earth Day celebration and birthday party for the new Triple H Ranch bed and breakfast, 12453 Yerba Valley Road in Lakeside from 1 to 8 p.m.

Activities for the whole family include tours of gardens and the bed and breakfast, a petting zoo, face painting, an open gallery, mosaic making, music, plant and seed exchange and gifts, poster and photo contests, and a pot luck luncheon.

WINONA LADUKE SPEAKS APRIL 22 AT SDSU’S GREENFEST

April 16, 2015 (San Diego) — Internationally acclaimed Native American and environmental activist Winona LaDuke will be the keynote speaker at San Diego State University’s GreenFest on Earth Day, April 22nd.  She will appear at Montezuma Hall in the Conrad Prebys Student Center at 4:30 p.m. The speech is free and open to the public.

LaDuke is the Executive Director of Honor the Earth, the largest Indigenous environmental organization in North America, and the author of 6 books. She is an Anishinaabe from the White Earth reservation in northern Minnesota. La Duke also served as Ralph Nader’s vice-presidential running mate on the Green Party ticket in the 1996 and 2000 presidential elections. In 2007, LaDuke was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame.

She is also a cousin of East County Magazine co-founder Leon Thompson.

GROUNDBREAKING SET FOR WALKER PRESERVE TRAIL PROJECT

October 22, 2014 (Santee)--The city of Santee has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony for 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23 to mark the beginning of construction of a new 1.3-mile-long multi-use recreational trail along the San Diego River known as the Walker Preserve Trail Project.

AN EVENING OF POETRY AGAINST NUKES & FOR GREEN ENERGY NOV. 1 IN LA MESA

October 26, 2012 (La Mesa) – Space Bar Internet Café is hosting an evening of poetry against nuclear energy and for green energy on November 1 from 7:30 – 10:00 p.m.  All are welcome to participate by writing a poem expressing whistleblowing, wishes to stop nukes, a dream of green. 

Write a poem or just attend the event at 7454 University Ave., La Mesa.

If so, you’re invited to join "Alpine's Tree Town Party" on April 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Alpine Woman's Club, 2156 Alpine Blvd.
 

Learn about the oak beetle that is killing local oaks--and watch Warren Stormthunder prune a tree and then give it away to someone in the audience. Children's programs l be held throughout the day and vendors will also participate.
