TREASURE ISLAND REVIEW: A PIRATE STORY

By Kathy Carpenter

August 14, 2019 (Santee) – We all go through journeys of discovery. Treasure Island, presented by The Pickwick Players, is Ken Ludwig's adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic that many of us were forced to read in high school English in days gone by. Admittedly, watching a play is far more entertaining.

March 23, 2019 (Santee) - Did I do the right thing? That's a question posed by Reverend Shaw to his congregation during Footloose. I know I did the right thing when I decided to go out for this show. Pickwick Players provides quality entertainment to East County. Footloose was no exception.

PICKWICK PLAYERS BRING CHARACTERS TO LIFE IN TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD

By Kathy Carpenter, Associate/Youth Reviewer www.sdtheatrereviews.com

February 22, 2017 (Santee) – In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus Finch admonished his children to walk in someone else's shoes before judging them. You cannot know another clearly until you have considered things through their eyes. That’s a lesson we could all benefit from if we chose to exercise the option more.

PICKWICK PLAYERS PRESENT “TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD” FEB. 17-26 AT OFF BROADWAY LIVE IN SANTEE

"If our democracy is to work in this increasingly diverse nation, each one of us must try to heed the advice of one of the great characters in American fiction, Atticus Finch, who said "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view...until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."- President Barack Obama, Farewell Address January 2017

January 24, 2017 (Santee) -- Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird is the timeless and timely story of Atticus Finch, a widower, and his children Scout and Jem in the summer of 1935 in their town of Maycomb, Alabama. Atticus strives to raise his children to be willing to see the world from other people’s perspective, to “walk around in other people’s shoes”.  Over the course of the story, a young black man is unfairly accused of accosting a white woman and Atticus agrees to defend him.  Atticus’ morality and honor puts not only his client, but his children and himself in grave danger.
