OWNERS CALL FOR AID TO MOVIE THEATERS IN LAME DUCK SESSION CONGRESS

November 12, 2020 (Washington D.C.) -- The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) this week called for Congress and the Trump administration to act now to save local movie theaters devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic by passing relief legislation. According to a press release issued by the organization, 96% of movie theaters have reported over 70% in losses in 2020.

MOVIE THEATERS AND MORE CAN REOPEN

June 13, 2020 (San Diego) – The latest easing of COVID-19 restrictions are rolling out. Since yesterday, June 12th, indoor movie theaters can reopen and film production of TVs and movies can resume. Also allowed to reopen, with limitations, are gyms, bars and wineries, swimming pools, hotels and other rental properties for travelers, and major tourist attractions such as zoos, aquariums, galleries and museums.

THREATS ON MOVIE THEATERS PROMPTS CANCELLATION OF "THE INTERVIEW" FILM DEBUT SET FOR CHRISTMAS DAY

 

Update:  Sony has cancelled release it The Interview on Christmas Day, after Homeland Security confirmed it had linked the hacks/threats to North Korea.

December 17, 2014 (San Diego)--Hackers have threatened 9/11-style attacks on movie theaters debuting “The Interview,” which is set for release on Christmas Day.  The threats follow hacks against Sony Pictures Entertainment over its film, a comedy depicting journalists recruited by the CIA to assassinate North Korean President Kim Jong-un.

COMING TO A THEATER NEAR YOU – PARKS AND REC CREATE A CAMPING PSA

September 9, 2012 (San Diego) – Parks and Rec has created a camping PSA to be shown in movie theaters and on cable television.  Next time you settle into your seat and juggle your popcorn and your soda, keep your eyes on the giant, silver screen.  Along with reminders to turn off your cell phone, you’ll see a reminder of another sort - how to enjoy the outdoors at our County parks.
