February 22, 2021 (Sacramento) - The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), out of an abundance of caution, is notifying customers that a company it uses to verify vehicle registration addresses has had a security breach. DMV systems have not been compromised and it is unknown if DMV data shared with the company has been compromised. An investigation is under way.

DMV EXTENDS RENEWALS FOR 60 DAYS DUE TO COVID-19

March 18, 2020 (Sacramento) – In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the California Department of Motor Vehicles, or DMV, has asked California law enforcement to exercise discretion for 60 days in their enforcement of driver license and vehicle registration expiration dates beginning March 16th.

DMV OFFICES OPEN EARLIER TO REDUCE WAIT TIMES FUELED BY REAL ID APPLICANTS

July 2, 2019 (San Diego) – Starting July 1st,  theDepartment of Motor Vehicles has 53 offices opening at  7 a.m., an hour earlier than previously, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  In San Diego County, this includes offices in El Cajon and Poway as well as city of San Diego locations in Clairemont and on Normal Street. View all locations with extended hours.
