September 26, 2010 (Tecate) 6:20 p.m. – Incident Page Network reports that a firetruck was overtaken by the fire at the U.S.- Mexico border fire shortly after 4 p.m. today. Cal-Fire spokesman Mike Mohler said he also received word that a fire truck may have burned but was unable to confirm.
However he assured, “All the firefighters are fine; a couple of civilians in Mexico were burned or injured and were transported to a medical facility in Mexico.”
September 28, 2010 (San Diego’s East county) – The San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce, the League of Women Voters of East County and the Foothills Secondary Council of PTAs will host efforts to host a forum for the candidates running for the Grossmont Union High School District Board of Trustees. September 26, 2010 (La Mesa) -- Incumbent Councilman Mark Arapostathis, 43, is a hometown boy and local teacher who knows the city from the inside out. He was born and raised in La Mesa, went to Lemon Avenue Elementary, La Mesa Middle School and Helix High School, earned his B.A., M.A. and PhD in education locally, and has spent his entire career teaching since 1991 in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District. He currently teaches second grade at Rolando Elementary School.
Update 4:30 p.m. The Mexico fire has crossed the border into the U.S. and has burned about a half acre. CAL FIRE/San Diego County Fire Authority has moved resources to the Tecate point of entry. Air Attack 330 is now equipped with a camera and downlink system that the ground incident commander can view real time to see how the fire is burning across the border. “This is the first Air Attack to have this system and it has proved itself as a major tool in the firefighting arsenal,” Cal Fire’s Mike Mohler said. Smoke is visible across a broad swath of East County.
September 26, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) 8:30 a.m. – Three fires in Mexico that began yesterday are generating smoke visible from East County. “We are monitoring them and we have a lookout out there.,” Cal Fire spokesman Mike Mohler told East County Magazine this morning. The U.S. Forest Service is also keeping watch, he added.
September 25, 2010 (Descanso) – A two-story structure, one vehicle and a boat were destroyed in a 2- to 5-acre brush fire in Descanso this afternoon. A second structure was saved thanks to efforts by firefighters, suffering 10% loss. One civilian suffered smoke exhaustion and two firefighters also suffered heat exhaustion, according to Cal-Fire.
September 25, 2010 (Santee) -- A brush fire in Santee charred approximately 40 acres late this afternoon, briefly threatening structures before firefights brought the blaze under control. Multiple agencies responded to the fire, which began at Carlton Hills and Lake Canyon.

September 25, 2010 (San Diego)--Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps opens with Gordon Gekko being released from a federal penitentiary in the year 2001. Among the personal items given back to him is his mobile phone, one of those ugly giant cell phones that are an eyesore today but were trendy in the late 1980s. Gekko exits the penitentiary and sees everybody else being picked up, including one ex-convict in a limousine. But nobody comes for him. His face exudes loneliness. Here was a man who was big and rich twenty-five years ago but now nobody cares about him.

Alex (Romain Duris), who is tasked with breaking up a heiress’s relationship with her fiance, puts on I’ve Had the Time of My Life from her favorite movie Dirty Dancing. He starts dancing, having memorized all the steps. I cracked a really wide smile when Bill Medley began singing. I wasn’t laughing a lot during Heartbreaker but I sure was smiling.

September 24, 2010 (San Diego)--I watched Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole in a packed theater. Much of the audience consisted of parents and kids, many of them ranging between three to seven years old. There was an air of excitement in the theater during the half hour before the screening. But within the first fifteen minutes all the fun was sucked out. By the end, the atmosphere was cold and joyless. I left the screening depressed, manipulated, angry and appalled. This movie is based on a series of children’s novels but it is definitely not for kids. I will feel sorry for parents who will be understandably misled and take their kids to see a movie that will leave their young ones with tears and nightmares.

September 23, 2010 (10:15 p.m.) – Connie Hoagland, a day care worker and wife of Larry Hoagland,, is the woman injured in tonight’s car explosion in Rancho San Diego, according to an e-mail sent by Pastor Jim Garlow of Skyline Church. “Connie was rushed to an area burn center and is going into the operating room,” he wrote at 7 p.m.
“Based on reports we have heard at this time, both legs are broken and her left foot has injuries as well.” Her injuries are not life threatening, he said, then asked for prayers for the Hoaglands, both parishioners at Skyline.

September 23, 2010 (San Diego) – U.S. Attorney Laura E. Duffy announced last week that three men have been sentenced to prison for sexual exploitation of a child and sex trafficking involving a minor.
Update 8:45 p.m. - The injured woman was a daycare worker, neigbors have said. Channel 8 News reports a "large-scale" evacuation that was expected to continue for several hours as the FBI bomb squad searches other vehicles throughout the area. Officials have not yet stated whether they believe the victim was targeted or not, or what the motive may be.
