DAT PHAN COMEDY

  

May 10, 2011 (Santee) --The West Hills High School Foundation is hosting a Stand Up Comedy fundraising event Saturday,  May 14th at West Hills High's Bob Guess Theatre in Santee.  The doors open at 6:15 and the show starts promptly at 7:00.   Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.  Headliner and alumni Dat Phan will be performing with a variety of other comedians.  Dat was the season 1 winner of NBC's hit show, "Last Comic Standing."

EXPLORE MISSION TRAILS DAY, MAY 21 2011

 

May 10, 2011 (San Diego) --  Mission Trails Regional Park, one of our City’s least known, great treasures, is open every day. But only once a year do dozens of volunteers, Park Rangers and community leaders host a large free event to help San Diegans learn more about their Park and how to enjoy it.  On Saturday, May 21, residents of all ages are invited to the 2011 event: Explore Mission Trails Day  On May 21, 2011, Mission Trails will hold activities free for all ages.

The younger children can learn about things like bats, nature walks, raptors, reptiles, and other animals. There will also be pony rides for the kids (until 1:30 p.m.)  Older kids and adults will find nature discovery stations, a rock-climbing wall, hiking pole demos (7:30-11 a.m.). There will also be a star-gazing party.

May 9, 2011 (El Cajon) -- If you haven’t been yet, don't miss the next monthly antique show in El Cajon on Wednesday, May 11th!  See all the great collectibles, including jewelry, photos, artwork, dolls, textiles, dishes, pottery, and glassware.

 

This event is held the 2nd Wednesday of every month at the Ronald Reagan Community Center located at 195 East Douglas Avenue, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

ALLIED GARDENS COMMUNITY SPRING FEST

 

 

 

May 7, 2001 (Allied Gardens) -- The Spring Fest will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 13, and 14 at Allied Gardens Community Park at 5155 Greebrier Avenue.

On Friday, from 5:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. There will be a beer garden and food, carnival rides, and a concert by Acme Rhythm & Blues Review. In addition, on Saturday there will be the annual Kiwanis parade, a car show, carnival rides, merchandise booths, the beer garden, and food. The concert will be by the Zippers.

THE LAKE MURRAY 4TH OF JULY MUSIC FEST BAKE SALE

 

May 6, 2011 (Lake Murray) --  The Lake Murray 4th of July Music Fest Bake Sale will be held this Saturday, May 7th.   Each year the Music Fest committee budget runs short, so we are starting early to give them a fund-raising boost.  Most of us look forward to watching the fireworks from our favorite viewing point above Lake Murray, so let's work together to ensure it's success again this year. Everyone can do their part by donating a baked goodie and/or stopping by our booth to support the cause.  The bake sale will be held at the corner of Del Cerro Blvd. and Marne Ave. (across from the Chevron).

May 6, 2011 (Alpine) – Viejas Outlet Center will host Alpine’s biggest festival, the 14th annual Sage & Songbirds Festival & Garden Tour on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8.  The theme for this year's festival, which includes live butterfly releases, is "Just Wing It."

 

A tour of residential gardens with butterfly and songbird-friendly habitats will also be held from May 6-8, with proceeds benefiting CHIRP, a non-profit organization dedicated to preservation and enjoyment of birds, butterflies and other creatures through hands-on and interactive programs and gardens.

LIONS TIGERS & BEARS SANCTUARY HOSTS "WILD IN THE COUNTRY" FUNDRAISER

 

May  5, 2011 (Alpine) --  Lions Tigers & Bears (LTB), San Diego's only big cat sanctuary, is once again hosting the "Wild in the Country" event on Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.to help raise awareness and funds for the plight against exotic and wild animals held in captivity.

 

The event will take place at the LTB facility at 24402 Martin Way, Alpine, CA 91901. Wild in the Country is LTB's signature event to raise funds that go to support the many big cats and other wild animals that have been adopted by LTB. The money raised through this annual event goes to pay for such services as veterinary needs, food, facility maintenance and future construction needs such as the bear enclosure.

RIVER DAYS ROLL OUT THIS WEEKEND

San Diego River Park Foundation announces a series of events to raise funds for establishing trails, parks, gardens and visitor centers along the 52-mile-long San Diego River. The events include San Diego Days, San Diego RiverFest, and a Healthy River Run.

San Diego River Days May 7-8 and 14-15 offer community events along the 52-mile San Diego River from the mountains near Julian to Ocean Beach’s Dog Beach. Activities include bike rides, cleanups, mountain hikes, planting along the river, educational venues, along with nature and history walks. At the conclusion of River Days on May 15, the San Diego River Park Foundation and more than 50 organizations of the San Diego River Coalition join together with families from throughout the county for RiverFest.

GUHSD STUDENTS DIVE INTO JEWELRY DESIGN: GOLDEN ARTISTRY WINNERS TO BE HONORED MAY 5 AT EVENT TO BENEFIT EAST COUNTY ARTS

 

May 5, 2011 (La Mesa)--Approximately 300 students from the Grossmont Union High School District plunged into designing water-themed jewelry in the 3rd Annual Golden Artistry Jewelry Design Competition. The twenty-two finalists will be honored this Thursday evening, May 5th from 5-9 p.m., at La Mesa’s Community Center.

 

This FREE event is a fundraiser for the arts, with funds distributed by Friends of East County Arts, Inc. The evening will have FREE food from Tiramisu Trattoria and El Cajon Applebys.  Wine and beer will be available for purchase. The evening also includes a live auction and opportunity drawing prizes. The event is open to all who want to support the arts.

BRITISH SHOP IN LA MESA PREPARES TO FETE ROYAL WEDDING DAY AT GRAND REOPENING CELEBRATION

April 28, 2011 (La Mesa) – At All Things Bright and British, a La Mesa shop specializing in British goods from scones to fine china, new owner Bill Jaynes invites the public to a week-long “Changing of the Guard” celebration. Festivities begin on Friday, April 29—just in time for the royal wedding of Prince William of Wales and his bride, Catherine Middleton.

“Watch the royal wedding with us—and bring a chair,” said Jaynes, who has taken command of the business from his parents, making this a double celebration. A piper band will perform Friday morning, followed by an Elton John tribute band from 2-6 p.m. Traditional English food, prizes and free gifts are all part of the fanfare.

April 28, 2011(El Cajon) -- The theme next week for the Cajon Classic Cruise is Cinco de Mayo.  Featured cars from Latino car clubs and collectors will be on display in addition to the classic souped up, and dressed out cars always on display. Mariachis will be performing, and the downtown merchants will be serving Cinco de Mayo food and drink specials May 4 (a day before cinco de Mayo) from 5-9 p.m. Car Show Ambassador, Steve Lordigyan, a car collector himself, says "This night is always fun because we often see cars we rarely see throughout the season."

WHAT A RIDE! CROWD TURNS OUT FOR 50TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY AT PACIFIC SOUTHWEST RAILWAY MUSEUM IN CAMPO

Tough-to-build line was once called the “impossible railroad”



April 18, 2011 (Campo) – More than 400 fans of fine foods, winetasting and vintage trains turned out on April 2nd at the“Chef’s Fire Up the Iron Horse” celebration to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum in Campo. Guests learned the colorful lore of San Diego's own railway line, rode the rails--and savored some memorable wining and dining.

 

Chefs de Cuisuine carved up up a whole roast pig as well as other mouth-watering dishes served up at seafood, barbecue and dessert stations. Owners of local wineries poured a generous array of samples at the San Diego County Vintners Association table. Other sponsors included Ballast Point Brewery, Café Calabria, and Viejas.

AMERICA’S FINEST BEER & MUSIC FESTIVAL ON TAP JULY 22-24

April 18, 2011 (San Diego) – The Rancho San Diego-Jamul Chamber is brewing up a big event – presenting America’s Finest Beer Festival. The festival will feature more than 120 California breweries as well as live music and food. The festival is on tap for July 22-24 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.
